Watching “Blast!” and the Olympics

Earlier this month, I went to Shibuya to see the Broadway musical “Blast!”, a show based on drum and bugle corps. I was very impressed by their dynamic rhythm and dance performance—they were so powerful! It was also lovely that the show included some special sounds and music to entertain the audience living in Japan. Energy from the stage completely mesmerized me, and it lifted me up.

While watching the show, I also wondered why they chose to be performers, how they went through the intense audition process, and how hard they must have been practicing—because they are so talented.

The same goes for the Olympics. When I watch the matches and competitions on TV, I often wonder if the athletes’ talent was discovered at a young age or what they are thinking about while they are practicing. I feel I’d like to know what keeps motivating them and what’s behind such strong determination because they are so resilient.

Above all, I want to know why I’m so moved by people I don’t know personally.
Maybe it’s because I’m a kind of witness to something a person has put their whole life into, with all their passion, and has created a miracle. When this truth touches me and moves my heart, it sometimes makes me cry. When I see it, of course, I’m overwhelmed, but I’m inspired and empowered that there are things that can be explored by working hard with true dedication.
