Izumi Kyoka (1873-1939) is a Japanese novelist in Meiji period. He is well known for his romantic and mystic novels.
Kouya Hijiri or Priest of Mt. Kouya is first published in "Shin Shosetsu (New Novels)" magazine in Meiji 33rd (1901). Mt. Kouya is a sacred mountain for Buddhism in Osaka. In this short novel, an old monk told his mysterious experience in his youth to a young man in an old inn at northern part of Japan.
