[26] 人々はイエスを引いて行く途中、田舎から出て来たシモンというキレネ人を捕まえて、十字架を背負わせ、イエスの後ろから運ばせた。
[27] 民衆と嘆き悲しむ婦人たちが大きな群れを成して、イエスに従った。
[28] イエスは婦人たちの方を振り向いて言われた。「エルサレムの娘たち、わたしのために泣くな。むしろ、自分と自分の子供たちのために泣け。
[29] 人々が、『子を産めない女、産んだことのない胎、乳を飲ませたことのない乳房は幸いだ』と言う日が来る。
[30] そのとき、人々は山に向かっては、 『我々の上に崩れ落ちてくれ』と言い、 丘に向かっては、 『我々を覆ってくれ』と言い始める。
[31] 『生の木』さえこうされるのなら、『枯れた木』はいったいどうなるのだろうか。」
"On him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus."Luke 23:26
「彼らはイエスの後ろから運ばせるようにと、彼（キレネのシモン）に十字架を負わせた」（ルカ23:26）
We see in Simon's carrying the cross a picture of the work of the Church throughout all generations;
she is the cross-bearer after Jesus.
私たちは、シモンが十字架を背負う姿に、世代を超えた教会の働きの姿を見る；
教会はイエスに続いて十字架を背負う者なのだ。
Mark then, Christian, Jesus does not suffer so as to exclude your suffering.
クリスチャンよ、イエスはあなたの苦しみを排除するために苦しんでいるのではない。
He bears a cross, not that you may escape it, but that you may endure it.
あなたが十字架から逃れるためではなく、あなたが十字架に耐えるために、彼は十字架を担っておられるのだ。
Christ exempts you from sin, but not from sorrow.
Remember that, and expect to suffer.
キリストは罪を免除してくれるが、悲しみは免除してくれない。
そのことを肝に銘じ、苦しむことを覚悟してほしい。
But let us comfort ourselves with this thought, that in our case, as in Simon's, it is not our cross, but Christ's cross which we carry.
しかし、シモンの場合と同じように、私たちの場合も、私たちが背負っているのは私たちの十字架ではなく、キリストの十字架なのだ。
When you are molested for your piety;
when your religion brings the trial of cruel mockings upon you, then remember it is not your cross, it is Christ's cross;
and how delightful is it to carry the cross of our Lord Jesus!
あなたが信心深さのために迫害を受けるとき、あなたの宗教が残酷な嘲笑の試練をもたらすとき、それはあなたの十字架ではなく、キリストの十字架であることを思い起こしなさい；

You carry the cross after him.

You have blessed company;
your path is marked with the footprints of your Lord.

The mark of his blood-red shoulder is upon that heavy burden.
その重荷には、血に染まった肩の跡が付いている。
'Tis his cross, and he goes before you as a shepherd goes before his sheep.
それは彼の十字架であり、羊飼いが羊の前を行くように、彼はあなたの前を行く。
Take up your cross daily, and follow him.
Do not forget, also, that you bear this cross in partnership.
日々、自分の十字架を負い、彼に従いなさい。

It is the opinion of some that Simon only carried one end of the cross, and not the whole of it.

That is very possible;
Christ may have carried the heavier part, against the transverse beam, and Simon may have borne the lighter end.
その可能性は大いにある；

Certainly it is so with you;
you do but carry the light end of the cross, Christ bore the heavier end.
それはあなたにも当てはまる；

And remember, though Simon had to bear the cross for a very little while, it gave him lasting honour.
そして忘れないで欲しい−
シモンが十字架を背負ったのはほんのわずかな間だったが、それが彼に永続的な栄誉を与えたことを。
Even so the cross we carry is only for a little while at most, and then we shall receive the crown, the glory.
たとえ私たちが背負う十字架は、せいぜい少しの間だけであっても、その後に栄冠、栄光を受けるのだ。
Surely we should love the cross, and, instead of shrinking from it, count it very dear, when it works out for us "a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory."
