4 　(あらすじ）　３
  疲れて帰ってきた新兵衛は、息子の幸助が夜遊びで家にいないことを知り憤慨する。幸助はまだ十九である。こんな年で女遊びにはまっていては先行きが思いやられる。翌日説教をしたが、効き目はなかった。
　紙問屋の仲間内では、大店を中心にしてある画策がされようとしていた。それは問屋が儲かり、中間にいる漉家や仲買いを殺すことになるような事柄だった。それについて、昔からの馴染みの鶴来屋益吉と話していた。
　話が一通り終わると益吉は、自分の女房について新兵衛に聞いてきた。益吉の女房・おたねは遊びが激しすぎるのだ。その遊びには男漁りも含まれているから始末に負えない。新兵衛は益吉も大変だろうにと同情する。

4　 (Synopsis) 3
　　　When Shinbei comes home tired, he is upset to learn that his son, Kousuke, is away from home after a night out. Kousuke is still nineteen. Being addicted to playing with women at such a young age makes him worry about his future. He preached the next day but to no avail.
　　　Among the paper wholesaler's friends, a certain plan was about to be carried out, centering on the large stores. It was a matter that would make the wholesalers profitable and kill the strainers and brokers in the middle. He was talking about it with his old acquaintance Tsurugiya Masukichi.
　　　After the conversation was over, Masukichi asked Shinbei about his wife. Masukichi's wife, Otane, is playing too hard. The game also includes men fishing, so it's hard to get rid of. Shinbei sympathizes with Masukichi, thinking that it must be difficult for him as well.　（To be continued）
