９　『三年目』と三瀬　３

　作品は、全集でわずか4ページの小品です。鶴岡市三瀬を舞台に、鶴ヶ岡の城下から三瀬に至る矢引（やびき）峠、三瀬から温海方面に抜ける笠取峠、八森山越え、そして途中に当たる小波渡。田川街道を南下して木ノ俣、小国を経て小名部に至る道。あるいは小国からに出るルートが紹介されています。
　17の歳の晩夏、茶屋づとめのおはるは男と約束をした。「三年待ってくれ、かならず迎えにくる」と言った男の言葉を信じています。男は江戸にいます。20歳になったおはるの心は、微妙に揺れた。幼なじみで、馬方をしている幸吉は、おはるが好きだ。その催促を拒んできたのは、「あの男に出会ったときのように、火に焼かれたように心を掻きみだすものがない」からなのだ。
　女中仲間は、夢みたいな話を信じるおはるを「時どきからかったり、明らさまに嘲ったりする」のである。越後生まれのおしげだけは違った。おはるに同情している。「ずいぶん待ったもんね。女の盛りのときにさ」。

　「振り向いたおはるの眼の前に、男が立っていた。店の中から射す光が男を照らしている。頬がくぼみ、眼が鋭く、長い旅に日焼けして悴れていたが、男の顔は三年前よりも精悍な感じがした。
『どうにか、間に合ったようだね』
　と、その男、清助は江戸弁で言った。」

　清助は帰ってきた。しかし、迎えに来たわけではなかった。もう3年待ってくれ、とおはるに言ったのです。いったんは断ったが、一晩眠らずに考えた末、おはるは幸吉の舟で小波渡（こばと）に向かいます。三瀬の宿屋を早朝に出、笠取（かさとり）峠、八森（はちもり）山を越えてくる清助を、舟で近道をして、小波渡の砂浜でつかまえるためです。そして、一緒に江戸に行こうとします。
　一途な愛を貫こうとしているおはる。女の性（さが）とでもいうべき切なさが伝わってきます。清助の心情がここでは見えない。かえって不気味です。「頬がくぼみ、眼が鋭く、精悍な」顔は例外なく、藤沢作品の、特に市井物に出てくる「ならず者」のそれです。おはるは「でも、あのひと約束を守ったのよ」と、自分の運命を賭けるのです。
　耐える女、一途な女、そして思いを信じる女は藤沢作品の女性像です。庄内の女性そのものです。

9　 "The Third Year" and Sanze 3

　　　The work is a small piece of only 4 pages in the complete collection. Set in Sanze, Tsuruoka City, Yabiki Pass leading to the shallows, Kasatori Pass passing from Sanze to Atsumi, crossing Mt. Hachimori, and on the way　Kobato hits. A road that goes south on the Tagawa Highway to Kinomata, then Oguni to Onabe. or from a small country. The route to go out is introduced.

　　　In late summer at the age of 17, Oharu, a teahouse servant, made a promise to a man. "Wait three years, I'll definitely pick you up.
I believe the words of the man who said, "I will come to you." The man is in Edo. Oharu's heart at the age of twenty shook slightly.
　　　Kokichi, a childhood friend and horseman, likes Oharu. The person who refused the urging said, "Ah. There is nothing that stirs my heart like when I met a man who was burned by fire."
　　　Her fellow maids "sometimes tease and openly ridicule" Oharu for believing in a dreamlike story. Only Oshige, who was born in Echigo, was different. I feel sorry for you. "You've waited a long time. It's time for a woman's prime."

　　　“When Oharu turned around, there was a man standing in front of him. The light from inside the shop illuminated him. His face looked more fearless than it had three years ago.
"Somehow, it looks like you made it in time."
Said the man, Seisuke, in Edo dialect. ”

　　　Seisuke is back. But he didn't come for me. He told Haru to wait another three years. He once refused, but after thinking without sleeping all night, Oharu heads for Kobato on Kokichi's boat. He left the inn in Sanze early in the morning and took a shortcut by boat to catch Seisuke on the sandy beach of Kobato. And we will go to Edo together.
　　　Oharu, who is trying to stick to his unwavering love. The sadness that should be called the nature of a woman is conveyed. You can't see Seisuke's feelings here. It's rather creepy. Without exception, the face of "dumped cheeks, sharp eyes, and fearless" is that of the "rogues" that appear in Fujisawa's works, especially those in the street. Oharu says, "But he kept his promise," and she puts her fate on the line.
　　　A woman who endures, a woman who is earnest, and a woman who believes in her thoughts are the female images of Fujisawa's works. She is the woman of the Shonai district herself.　（To be continued）
