（あらすじ） ８

　才助は犬の血を勘解由の刀に塗り、果たし合いの結果を装う細工を行った。藤井は収賄の罪も発覚し家は断絶した。才助はこの後、以登との間に７人もの子を儲け、出世を続けて長く筆頭家老を勤めたのである。
　才助との祝言が済んだ翌年、以登は花見に赴く。しかし、満開なのに花が終わった後のようなさびしさを感じ、それ以来一度も花見に行くことはなかった。
