（はじめに）

　藤沢周平の短編集『時雨みち』（1981年4月 ）所収短編１１編の一つ。帰還せず／飛べ、佐五郎／山桜／盗み喰い／滴る汗／幼い声／夜の道／おばさん／亭主の仲間／おさんが呼ぶ／時雨みち。
　『山桜』の主人公は、最初の嫁ぎ先で夫に先立たれて実家に戻され、その後再婚して磯村家に嫁いだ野江という女性です。
    野江は墓参りの帰りに見事に咲いている桜の枝を折ろうとしたがなかなかうまくいかない。それを助けてくれたのは手塚弥一郎であった。手塚は野江が夫が病死したために家に戻ってきた時に舞い込んだ縁談相手の一人だった。
    この出会いがあった後しばらくして手塚弥一郎が城中で諏訪平右衛門を刺殺した。野江はその後の手塚の処遇が気になって仕方がなかった。野江と手塚弥一郎との恋物語です。

　　　The main character of "Yamazakura（ Wild Cherry Blossoms ）" is a woman named Noe. At the time of her first marriage, her husband passed away and she was returned to her parent's house and then remarried into the Isomura family.
　　　On the way back from visiting the grave of her aunt, Noe tried to break off a branch of the cherry blossoms that were in full bloom, but it didn't go very well. It was Yaichiro Tezuka who helped her with that. Tezuka was one of Noe's marriage partners when she returned to her home after her husband died of illness.
　　　Sometime after this encounter, Yaichiro Tezuka stabbed Suwa Heiemon to death in the castle. Noe couldn't help but worry about Tezuka's treatment of status after that. This is a love story between Noe and Yaichiro Tezuka.
