６　｢書斎のことなど｣

　もとでのかからない小説は、さほどよくない。そう藤沢周平は述べています。つまり、小説を書くにあたって、必要ならば資料となる本を購入し、また、取材旅行もしなければならないということなのです。そういえば、時代小説・歴史小説の大家には取材旅行を精力的に行った人が多い気がします。このことは時代小説・歴史小説に限った話ではなく、現代小説についてもいえることだと思う。

６　“About My Reading Room, etc.”

　　　Novels that don't cost the necessary amount of money aren't good. So says Fujisawa Shuhei. In other words, to write a novel, we have to purchase books that serve as materials if necessary, and also go on research trips. Come to think of it, I feel that many of the masters of period novels and historical novels have gone on extensive research trips. I think this is true not only for historical novels but also for contemporary novels.
