１０『市塵』５　その魅力（２）

　最後に簡単に紹介しておきますが、『市塵』は白石の自伝『折りたく柴の記』（岩波文庫）を下敷きにしたものです。付け加えれば「折りたく柴の記」の題名は後鳥羽院の「思いいづる折りたく柴の夕けぶりむせぶもうれしわすれがたみに」の歌に基づいています。さらに『市塵』の題名は「市井紅塵」の略であろう。「市井」は庶民の社会のことですし、「紅塵」は道路に立つ土けむりのことであって雑踏する繁華の地を形容した言葉です。いずれも庶民の暮らすまちなかを表しています。この『市塵』という題名と白石の人生を描いた本書の内容との関係については本書を実際に読んでいただくしかないと思いますが、藤沢周平にとって、白石は将軍の政治顧問を勤めた偉人としてではなく、市井の人としての存在であったということだけは言えると思います。

　　　 Finally, I would like to give a brief introduction, but "Shijin (City Dust)". is based on Hakuseki's autobiography "Oritaku Shiba no Ki" (Iwanami Bunko). In addition, the title of "Oritaku Shiba no Ki" is based on Gotoba-in's song " （Author‘s Translation: In a way, it makes me happy to sob every time I remember it, just as I cough from the smoke from the firewoods that I fold and burn in the evening.）“ 　Furthermore, the title of "Shijin (City Dust)". is probably an abbreviation of "Shisei Kojin." "Shisei" refers to the society of the common people, and "Koujin" refers to the dust that stands on the road, and is a word that describes a bustling and prosperous place. All of them represent towns where ordinary people live. As for the relationship between the title "Shijin (City Dust)" and the content of this book, which depicts Hakuseki's life, I think you have to actually read this book. I think I can only say that he existed as a person in the town, not as a famous person for Fujisawa Shuhei.
