　第一作では赤穂浪士が吉良を討つまでの様子と、青江が藩を追われたきっかけとなった事件の真相が解明されるまでが重なるように描かれる。用心棒という裏の仕事をしているうちに次第に赤穂の浪人たちと関わるようになり、青江の目から見た『忠臣蔵』が明らかにされる。赤穂浪士の討ち入りを主軸に、その廻りを又八郎が走り廻っていると取れなくもありません。赤穂義士の物語を第三者として見た物語なのです。
　ところで、「用心棒日月抄」を再読したが、この作品が赤穂浪士の復讐（ふくしゅう）のサイドストーリーとして企画されたものであったことを、すっかり失念していたので、こんなに殿中の刃傷事件をくわしく書いてあったのかと、意外な気がした。それだけ登場人物に魅力があったから、記憶の中から赤穂の事件が消えてしまっていたにちがいない。青江又八郎は赤穂の事件とかかわりを持たせなくとも、十分一本立ちできると思う。

　　　In the first work, the scene where the Ako Roshi (lordless samurai of Ako domain)　attacked Kira overlaps with the truth about the incident that caused Aoe to be expelled from the domain. While working behind the scenes as a bodyguard, he gradually becomes involved with the ronin of Ako, and "Chushingura" as seen through Aoe's eyes is revealed. With Matahachiro running around the raid of the Ako Roshi as the main axis, it's not impossible to get it. It is a story that sees the story of a loyal retainer of Ako in the third person.
　　　By the way, when I read " Yojimbo Nichigetsusho　（A Daily / Monthly Record of A Bodyguard）” again, I had completely forgotten that this work was planned as a side story of the revenge of the Ako Roshi, so I didn't really understand the sword incident in the palace. I was surprised at how detailed it was written. Because the characters were so attractive, the Ako incident must have disappeared from my memory. I think Matahachiro Aoe can stand on his own without having to deal with the Ako case.　（To be continued）
