２－４　　『橋ものがたり』“川霧”ではこんな始まりだ。風景描写がみごとである。

「川の上に、霧が動いていた。高い橋の上から見おろすと霧は川上の新大橋のむこうから、はるかな河口のあたりまで、うす綿をのばしたように水面を覆っていた。だが綿でない証拠に、霧はたえず動き、ところどころで不意にとぎれて、その底から青黒い水面を浮かびあがらせる。」

「永代橋。長さ百十間あまり、幅三間一尺五寸の高い橋だった。日の出前の青白い光が這う橋の上に、まだ人影は見えなかった。橋の下を流れる川霧をわけてくる舟の姿もなかった。新蔵は、ぼんやりと欄干に身体を寄せて、川霧がやがて茫漠としたひろがりを見せている河口の方向を眺めつづけた。そして微かな悲哀が、胸を染めてくるのにまかせた。」（藤沢周平『橋ものがたり』-川霧-）

２－４　"Bridge Stories -River Fog- “ begins as follows. The landscape description is wonderful.

　　　"The fog was moving over the river. When I looked down from the high bridge, the fog covered the surface of the water from the overpass of the new big bridge over the river to the far estuary, as if stretching cotton. However, the evidence that it is not cotton causes the fog to move constantly, suddenly breaking up and down in places, causing the blue water surface to emerge from its bottom." 

　　　"Eitai Bridge. It was a tall bridge with a length of about 100 ken and a width of 3 ken and 1 shaku. I couldn't see a figure yet on the bridge where the pale light crawled before sunrise. There was no boat separating the river fog flowing under the bridge. Shinzo vaguely leaned toward the parapet and continued to look in the direction of the river mouth where the river fog was eventually showing a vague spread.
