1（はしがき）
　藤沢周平は、1984年（昭和59年）に江戸を舞台にした恋愛小説『海鳴り』を書きました。主人公小野屋新兵衛は江戸の紙問屋を一代で築き上げた商人で46歳。老齢に指しかかった商人という市井の人で,主人公が引き起こす不倫の話を軸にした人情話・恋愛小説です。“ダブル不倫”の物語ですが、不義密通は死罪にもなった江戸期のこと。それへと踏み出すことは抜き差しならぬ切迫感を帯びていて、覚悟の程は現代風ではありません。
　上巻は「白い胸」「闇の冷え」「見えない壁」「日の翳り」「崩れる音」「夜の道」「取引」「暗い火花」「狙い撃ち」「凝視」1０の話、下巻は、「仄かな光」「裏切り」「おたね」「火の花」「遠い稲妻」「秋の声」「破滅」「野の光景」８話、合計18話から構成されています。薄幸の人妻おこうに、果たせぬ想いを寄せていき、おこうとの危険な逢瀬に、この世の仄かな光を見いだすが、闇は更に広く、そして深かった新兵衛の心の翳りを軸に、人生の陰影を描いています。

1.（Preface）
　　　In 1984 (Showa 59), Fujisawa Shuhei wrote a romance novel
"Uminari　（The Roaring of the Sea.）" set in Edo.　The main character Shinbei Onoya is a 46-year-old merchant who built a paper wholesaler in Edo in a single generation. It is a human love story and romance novel centered on the story of adultery caused by the main character, a merchant who is approaching old age. It is a story of a "double affair", but it is from the Edo period when adultery was punishable by death. Stepping into it has an irresistible sense of urgency, and the degree of determination is not as modern as it is prepared to be.
　　　The first volume is including ``A White Breast'', ``Coldness of Darkness'', ``An Invisible Wall'', ``Shadow of the Sun'', ``Crumbing Sound'', ``A Night Road'', ``A Deal'', ``A Dark Spark'', ``A Snipe'', and ``Stare'',10 stories, and the second volume is including 8 episodes of ``A Dim Light'', ``Betrayal'', ``Otane'', ``A Fire Flower'', ``A Distant Lightning'', ``An Autumn Voice'', ``Destruction'', and ``A Field Scene''. It consists of a total of 18 episodes. With his unfulfilled feelings for Okou, an ill-fated married woman, he finds a faint light in this world in a dangerous meeting with Okou, but the darkness is wider and deeper.
