　『用心棒日月抄』シリーズは、『用心棒日月抄』『孤剣』『刺客』『凶刃』の4作から校正されています。主人公の青江又八郎は、都合4回、江戸に上る。それぞれ完結形式で物語は展開するが、海坂藩と思われる「北国の小藩」の政争に巻き込まれ、それを解決する、という筋立ては変わりません。3度目まではいずれも浪人の身分。冒頭の描写は、4度目の江戸行きを打診される下りです。
 
「『じつは、ごく内密に頼みがある』
　言うと、榊原は又八郎の目をひたとのぞきこむようにした。寺社奉行の青白い顔が急に表情を失い、二つの目だけがこちらの気配を窺（うかが）っているような、奇妙な感触を又八郎は受けた。」

　『凶刃』の又八郎は、40を過ぎている。「肩にも腹にも贅肉（ぜいにく）」がついている3人の子持ちである。『刺客』の又八郎から、16年がたっていた。

　藩の忍び「嗅足（かぎあし）組」とは、『孤剣』以来の関わりがあります。特に、『刺客』の又八郎は、組の頭領・女忍者佐知に危ういところを助けられています。江戸では相思の間柄だった。『凶刃』は、その「嗅足組」の解散と、組の忍者皆殺しを謀る藩上層部との闘いです。

　　　The "Yojimbo Nichigetsusho（A Daily/ Monthly Record of A Bodyguard）” series is proofread from four works: “Yojimbo Nichigetsusho（A Daily/ Monthly Record of A Bodyguard）” , “A Sole Sword ", "An Assassin", and “An Assassin's Dagger ". The main character, Matahachiro Aoe, goes to Edo four times. The story unfolds in a complete form for each, but the story of getting involved in a political dispute of a "small domain in the northern country" that seems to be the Unasaka domain and resolving it remains the same. Up to the third time, he was a ronin（a masterless samurai）. The opening depiction is the scene where he is asked to go to Edo for the fourth time.

After saying that, Sakakibara looked straight into Matahachiro's eyes. The magistrate's pale face suddenly lost its expression, and Matahachiro felt a strange sensation as if only two eyes were watching for his presence. ”
 
"An Assassin's Dagger " Matahachiro is over 40. He is a father of three children and has "fat on his shoulders and belly." Sixteen years have passed since Matahachiro in "An Assassin".
 
　　　The domain's Shinobi "Kagiashi-gumi" has been associated with them since " A Sole Sword ". In particular, Matahachiro, the "An Assassin", is saved in a dangerous situation by the leader of the group, the female ninja Sachi. In Edo, it was a relationship of mutual love. “An Assassin's Dagger - Yojimbo Nichigetsusho（A Daily/ Monthly Record of A Bodyguard）” is about the dissolution of the "Ninusoku-gumi" and the fight against the clan's upper echelons who plan to kill all the ninjas in the group.　（To be continued）
