　おみつは七十六になる義父由蔵の様子がおかしいことに気づく。由蔵はボケが始まっており昔のことを何とか思い出そうとしていたところだった。真面目に働いて来た由蔵だったが、若いころ博打にハマり5両の借金を作ってしまった。店の金を盗むことにした由蔵だったが、それを女に目撃されてしまう。しかし女はそのことを誰にも言わなかった。その女が誰だったのか、やっと由蔵は思い出す。　
 
　「－－あのとき、確かに誰かに見つかったのだ。と由蔵は衰えた頭で思う。
　茶の間から忍び出て、梯子の方に歩きかけたとき、眼の隅にちらとその人影が見えたのである。それは女だった。そしてその女が確かにこう言ったのである。
　「あたしは誰にも言いません。あなたも、あたしに見られたことを忘れてください」
　その女の声を思い出しているのに、顔はいくら考えても浮かんで来ないのである。
　そのとき由蔵は、その女に見逃してもらい、博奕の借金を返し、博奕ときっぱり縁を切っ　て、以前の倍も仕事に精出した。
　三年後には、その働きぶりが気に入られて、鶴見屋の婿になり、お若と夫婦になったので　　
ある。」

“After the Drizzling Rain" 6　 "A Secret"

　　　Omitsu notices that her 76-year-old father-in-law, Yoshizo, is acting strangely. Yoshizo is starting to lose his memory and is trying to remember things from the past. Although he has always worked hard, he got addicted to gambling when he was young and ended up in debt of 5 ryos. He decides to steal money from the store but is seen by a woman. However, the woman doesn't tell anyone about it. Yoshizo finally remembers who that woman was.
 
"Someone found me that time," Yoshizo thinks with his weakened mind.
　　　As he sneaks out of the living room and starts to walk towards the ladder, he catches a glimpse of a figure out of the corner of his eye. It was a woman. And she said this to him.
"I won't tell anyone. You should also forget that I saw you."
　　　He remembers the woman's voice, but no matter how much he thinks about it, her face doesn't come to mind. At that time, the woman let Yoshizo off the hook, he paid off his gambling debts, made a clean break from gambling, and worked twice as hard as before.
