（あらすじ） ３

　江口家は百石の勘定組で、羽賀道場の筆頭である孫四郎は冷や飯喰いと聞く。江口孫四郎と会う直前に以登は婚約がととのい、婿を迎える身となっていた。その前に、父・甚左衛門は丹精して育てた以登の剣を外で試したかったのだろう。以登は屋敷に帰って父親に江口孫四郎と試合をさせてほしいと頼んだ。それは恋でもあった。父はこれを了承したが、場所は屋敷で行うことになった。長い梅雨が明けた頃に、屋敷の土の稽古場で跣（はだし）で行われた。だが、以登の剣は江口の前では全く通用しなかった。試合はあっけなく以登の負けとなり、父は江口にかかっては子供同然だと残念がった。そして父・甚左衛門は以登に気が済んだかと聞いた。

　　　It is said that the Eguchi family is an accountant with a hundred koku, and Magoshiro, the head of the Haga dojo, is received coldly. Just before meeting Magoshiro Eguchi, Ito was engaged to be a bride. Before that, her father, Jinzaemon, must have wanted to try out the sword of Ito, who he had painstakingly raised. Ito went back to her mansion and asked her father to let her play a match with Magoshiro Eguchi. It was also love. Her father agreed, but it was decided that the event would take place at the mansion. At the end of the long rainy season, it was performed barefoot in the dirt rehearsal hall of the mansion. However, Ito's sword was completely useless in front of Eguchi. In the match, Ito was easily defeated, and her father was disappointed that his daughter was like a child in a fight with Eguchhi.
