　前作『刺客』から16年後、青江又八郎は40歳を越えており、藩の近習頭取に就いていた。ある日、青江は嗅足組解散の指令を江戸屋敷に伝える密命を受けた。使命そのものは秘密であるが、今回は前3回と異なり公務として江戸に向かう。
　佐知や旧知の江戸の人々との再会も束の間に、青江は、藩の重大な秘密についての争いに巻き込まれていく。本シリーズ最終作品であり、長年の佐知との関係に決着をつける作品です。

One day, Aoe receives a secret mission to deliver the order to disband the Nisoku-gumi to the Edo mansion. The mission itself is a secret, but unlike the previous three times, this time it is headed to Edo on official business.
　　　Shortly after reuniting with Sachi and his old acquaintances from Edo, Aoe finds himself embroiled in a dispute over an important clan secret. This is the final work of this series, and it is a work that settles the relationship with Sachi for many years.　（To be continued）
