（あらすじ） １

　「七十五歳生きた先々代の殿・雲覚院はさばけた方で、春の季節になると、家中の女子どもに城の二の丸に入ることを許してくれた。今は許されなくなった昔の話である。
  うわさがあった。それは花見の女子どもの中から見目の良い娘を物色しては御城に召したというのだ。事実かうわさかは知らぬ。」
 
　この話をしていたのは以登である。五十年前の以登は十八で、年相応の花やぎを身にまという娘だった。色白で細面、けして醜女ではないのだが父に似て口がいささか大きすぎる。
 
「細面の輪郭は母親から譲りうけたものの、眼尻が上がった眼と大きめの口は父親に似て、せっかくの色白の顔立ちを損じている。以登は日ごろから大きめな自分の口を気にしていて、ひと前で笑うことはおろか、なるべく口のあたりが目立たないように面伏せに振舞うことを心がけていた。」
 

(Synopsis)　１

      "Unkaku-in, a lord of the previous generation, who lived seventy-five years old, was a wise man, and in the spring season, he allowed the women and children of the family to enter the castle's second enclosure. It's an old story.
There were rumors. It is said that he searched for good-looking girls among the women and children of cherry blossom viewing and summoned them to the castle. Fact or rumor, I don't know. ”
 
      It was Ito who was talking about this. Fifty years ago, Ito was eighteen, and she was a girl who becomes brilliant for her age.  She is pale, thin, and not at all ugly, but like her father, her mouth is a little too big.
 
"Although she inherited her thin face from her mother, the raised eyes and large mouth resembled her father's and spoiled her fair-skinned features. Ito always cared about her large mouth. Instead of laughing in public, she tried to pretend that her mouth was as inconspicuous as possible.”
