４　『火の家』

　「この村には、山は三方から迫っていた。うしろは月山の深い山懐だった。左手には赤川の上流をさかのぼった奥に、広大な山域がひろがっていた。そして川向うには、平地をはさんで母狩山、湯ノ沢岳、三方倉山、摩耶山とつづく山系があった。」
　村はずれの水車小屋に若者が住み着いたらしい。この若者は源吉といって、もともとは村の人間だった。しかし、以前に村の人間からひどい仕打ちを受け、家を火に焼かれてしまったのである。
　大鷲坊はおすえの腹痛を治す祈祷をしているところを呼ばれて、肝煎の家に行った。あらかたの様子を聞いた大鷲坊は、一度その源吉に会ってみることにした。そして、源吉に会ってみると、源吉が抱く村への怨念は凄まじいものがあった。大鷲坊はどうするのか。

4. "The House of Fire"

　　　"Mountains surrounded this village on three sides. Behind them was the deep bosom of Mt. Gassan. On the left, upstream of the Akagawa River, a vast mountain range spread out. And on the other side of the river, across the plain, was the mountain range that continued with Mt. Hokari, Mt. Yunosawa, Mt. Mikatakura, and Mt. Maya."

　　　It seems that a young man had taken up residence in a water mill on the outskirts of the village. The young man's name was Genkichi, and he was originally a villager. However, he had been treated badly by the villagers in the past, and his house was burned down.
　　　Taishubou was called to the head of the family's house while he was praying to cure Osue's stomachache. After hearing the general story, Taishubou decided to meet Genkichi. When he met Genkichi, he found that he harbored a terrible grudge against the village. What would Taishubou do?
