Bathing a newborn in Japan -Frequency-
Have you taken any parenting classes? or does you midwife tell you how to bath a newborn?
We, Japanese, have “tub-bath culture” from ages ago so you might find the slightly different ways even for the newborn one.
I’ll explain some different points.
Firstly, frequency. If you can ask your midwife, pediatrics doctor or nanny about frequency of giving baby a bath, what was their answers? Did they recommend 3 or 4 times in a week or every single day? We normally give the babies a bath almost every day unless they are unwell or has a fever.
I know, however, some countries recommend just two-three times a week. It not right or wrong. It depends on climate (such as dry or humid, hot or cold) It depends on Baby’s DNA ( such as durable heat or dry, durable humid or skin condition, how much hair they have etc...)so you could try your countries way or Japanese way, if you see your baby’s skin too dry, you might skip few days for bathing or use skin lotion. If you see rash or smells a bit , you can bathe a baby more often. You could ask your pediatrics doctors or midwife always!
