［英詩］Bob Dylan, 'Don't Think Twice, It's All Right'

英詩のマガジンの本配信、今月3本目です。歌われる詩の2回めです。ボブ・ディランのアルバム 'The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan' (1963) に収められた曲 'Don't Think Twice, It's All Right' です。LP ではB面の1曲目でした。

日本では「くよくよするなよ」の邦題で知られています。その日本語だと過去のことを振返るようなニュアンスに聞こえますが、本当にそうなのでしょうか。

先日もお知らせしましたが、今月から、とうぶん、Bob Dylan, '100 Songs' に載っている歌を取上げてゆきます。1か月に最低でも2篇、可能なら4篇ていど、取上げたいと思います。月の主配信は〈英詩の基礎知識〉〈歌われた英詩1〉〈歌われた英詩2〉の3部構成にする予定です。

これまでは一つの歌に 12,000-15,000 字を費やして論じてきましたが、今後は一つあたり 5,000 字見当(または多くても10,000字以内)で論じてみます。ディランの詩は複雑で深いので、これだけの字数で論じられるかは不明ですが、読む方の負担も考えつつ、なおかつディランの全体像がくっきり見えるような記述を目ざします。ご理解くだされば幸いです。

ボブ・ディランの 'Don't Think Twice, It's All Right' は、男が女に別れを告げる歌。辛辣な調子か明るい調子かの解釈はタイトルをどう取るかに左右される。韻律的には交互韻とトリプレットとリフレーンから成り、おもしろい。
