Last Friday, June 12, 2020, the Philippines celebrated its 122nd independence day from the hands of Spain in 1898. That year was the first time that the Philippine flag was raised and the national anthem was played. Albeit, this freedom was ended short because Spain and the United States didn't recognize it until the Treaty of Paris in 1898 became effective. This treaty ended the war between Spain and the United States, giving the entire Philippines to the United States. And again, another revolt from the Filipinos against the United States from 1899 to 1946.
During this day, many people participate in nationwide parades such as 21-gun salute by the police and the military and a speech from the current president, or people going to malls and parks with their families. Unfortunately, due to COVID19, people merely
Most restricted the going out of their houses. Most of the government offices, businesses, schools, and other establishments we're closed on this day.Public transportation is also limited. If you're lucky enough, some services such as trains or buses , they have a discount or sometimes a free ride. Another thing, some department stores offer a sale commemorating the independence day.

Fact 1: Spanish colonized the Philippines for over 300 years!
Fact 2: Poor Filipinos suffered, tortured, and discriminated by the Spaniards.
Fact 3: The Spanish brought the Catholic religion, and that's why the majority of the Filipinos are Roman Catholic.
Fact 4: A lot of Spanish words have been integrated and used together in the Filipino language.
Fact 5: Aside from the Filipino language, the English language, that was brought by the Americans, is considered as an official language in the Philippines.
Fact 6: These are the meanings behind the colors of the Philippine flag– first, royal blue for peace, truth, and justice. Second, scarlet red for patriotism and valor. White triangle for equality and brotherhood. Three stars represent the three large islands of the country, namely Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao. The sun at the center has eight rays representing the eight Philippine provinces that started the revolt against Spain.
