Why there are so many Japanese products in the UK museum.
I do not have classes, so I have visited London, Cambridge, and Bournemouth.
Then, I realized there are so many Japanese potteries and paintings in many museums in the UK.
Their home countries have plundered many historical products, such as the Rosetta stones. This is called Repatriation (cultural property), and it is one of the controversial topics nowadays. The UK argues that they cannot return them as the law prohibits giving the artifacts to others.
I was curious if Japan is also a plaintiff in this world issue.
Actually, it was not.
I just searched about the Fitzwilliam Museum, which I visited before. All of the Japanese artifacts there have an Exhibition period; thus, they are loaned out from Japan instead of plundered. In addition, 三菱商事 is a suponcer of British museum so they recived Japanese artifacts as a busines partner.
I have a class tomorrow, so I cannot write anymore, even if there should be more information about Repatriation (cultural property).
I just wanted to tell you that Japanese products in UK museums are not plundered like those in Greece, Egypt, or Turkey. However, Repatriation (cultural property) is still a complicated problem because each country and organization has different rules.
