今日はとても悲しいお知らせがあります。

ageHa / スタジオコーストを来年の1月末でクローズすることになりました。

既にインターネット上で、ageHaとスタジオコーストに想いを寄せてくれる多くの投稿を目にして、みんなの悲しみが伝わってきて、、、
今日はその気持ちに寄り添い、思い出に浸って1日が終わりそうです。。。

クローズの原因はコロナやそれに関連した経済的な問題ではありません。
ニュースで書かれている通り、借地契約が更新できなかったのです。
実はこの問題の予兆は数年前から発生していました。

今後、東京で数千人規模のビッグパーティーを作ることは当分の間、困難になります。コンサートホールでパーティーを開催しても、その体験がクラブ体験としてはageHaに敵うはずがありません。

それは日本のダンスシーンにとって、とても大きな痛手であり、停滞になるでしょう。

しかし、ageHaが無くなることで、また新たな可能性が生まれることも確かだと思うのです。

今、私はとても落ち着いた気持ちで、この皆さんへの報告を書いています。

そもそも私は発電機とスピーカーとターンテーブルを持ち出して、ゲリラでパーティーを始めるところから自分のパーティーをスタートさせました。

おそらく最もageHaとは遠い場所からスタートして、今はageHaのプロデューサーという仕事を任せてもらっているのです。

本来、ageHaおよびスタジオコーストというプロジェクトには、それを構想し、現実にした最初のプロデューサーがいました。その人は日本のクラブシーンにおいて伝説的な人で、私のかつての直接のボスでした。
私はその人の最後の弟子だったと自認しています。

ゲリラから始め、DIYでパーティーをやっていたのでは見ることができなかった数々の景色を見せてもらい、ビジネスとして、エンターテイメントとして、両方の側面でクラブのイロハを教えてもらいました。

しかしある事件をきっかけに、その人がageHaから去ることとなり、
その後にしばらくして、会場であるスタジオコーストと企画会社としてのageHaが分離し、そこで私がageHaのプロデューサーとして呼び戻されました。

だから、私は今も"会場としての"ageHa / スタジオコーストの本当のプロデューサーはその人だと思っています。

しかし、時代は変わり、固有の会場を失って、ageHaは新たなプロジェクトとして存続していきます。

今、一つ言えることは、
ageHaはとても大きな会場でしたが、私が想像するダンスフロアはもっと広大だということです。

私は2019年のアニバサリーに際して、ageHaのミッションを以下のように規定しました。
「ダンスミュージックシーンの裾野を広げ、同時に理想を追求すること」

そして次に私が思い描く未来は
「地球をダンスフロアにする。」
ということです。

私たちはこれから、この厳しいコロナの状況の中でも、
最後までageHaをageHaらしく続けて最後の日を迎えます。

そして、いつの日か、
ageHaの外でみんなと踊れる日を、思い描き続けたいと思います。

Today I have a very somber announcement to make.

The place I've dedicated a significant amount of my life to, one third in fact—ageHa / STUDIO COAST—will be closing in January of next year.

I'm sure this news will both sadden and shock all those who hold ageHa and STUDIO COAST dear to their hearts.

The reason for this turn of events has nothing to do with covid or covid-related economic hurdles. We simply could not renew the contract for the land on which the club was built. In truth, we have been anticipating this possibility for some years now.

Moving forward, putting on parties at a capacity of several thousand people in Tokyo will become a rather difficult feat. And I think we can all agree that shows at concert halls will have nothing on ageHa as a proper club experience / party.

This will prove a huge and heavy blow to Japan's dance scene and, no doubt, invite a measure of stagnation.

However, though we will lose ageHa, I firmly believe we will simultaneously gain potential for something new.

Truth be told, I'm writing this message to you in a very calm and composed state.

Looking back, I started my career as a guerrilla party, setting up outdoors with turntables, speakers, and a generator.

Indeed, my origins could not be farther away from my current position as ageHa's producer.

In the beginning, there was a different producer—the very first one, in fact—who conceived the ageHa and STUDIO COAST projects, bringing them to life and sustaining them afterwards. That man is a legend within the Japanese club scene, and also happens to be my former boss. I believe myself to be the final person to learn under his direction.

As I started with guerrilla parties and a DIY philosophy, this man showed me many things I had never seen before. He taught me the basics of the club industry, in both the contexts of business (generating revenue, etc.) and outputting entertainment to customers.

Eventually, there were some developments which resulted in his leaving ageHa. Some time after this, the building—STUDIO COAST—and the production mechanism behind it—ageHa—split into two different entities. I was then called upon to serve as producer for the latter."
"In lieu of all this, the true producer behind ageHa and STUDIO COAST, as a single place, is that same man. I've always thought so, and still do.

And now, the times have changed yet again, with ageHa losing its physical location. But know that it will continue to exist—as an entirely new project, that is.

For the time being I can only say this: ageHa is a big venue with a big dance floor. But the dance floor I envision is much, much bigger.
For our 2019 anniversary I defined ageHa's mission as the following:
"To spread dance music culture and continuously push the envelope of its ideals."

Now, this is the banner under which I envisage the future:
"To make the planet a dance floor."

Even with the profound difficulties imposed by covid-19, we intend to keep producing ageHa in a way that is true to its spirit, right up until the final day.

And somewhere down the road, I see us all dancing together once more—this time outside of ageHa's walls. I look forward to that day.
