Week 6 Postpartum: Holidays and crying getting worse
Monday August 12th~Sunday August 18th
This week started of not too bad, but went downhill soon.
On Monday things were still ok. Baby wasn't feeding too much and she was sleeping a decent amount during the day.
Unfortunately her night time sleep continued to get worse. She would wake up frequently to sleep and some times it was hard to get her back to sleep.
On Tuesday we had a family gathering and I was scared she would be fussy again, but she was surprisingly calm and did not cry once. She also only wanted to get fed one time.
It went better than expected. She usually is very quiet when outside the house which I am very thankful for. Unfortunately once back home she would demand frequent feeding again. I think she was going through a growth spurt with all the feeding she was doing. It was a regression from last week.
We also had tons of feeding sessions on Wednesday, but she was still having good naps during the day and I could get things done around the house. Her night sleep did not improve and we still did not get back the 4 hour stretches we had before.
On Wednesday night we went for a walk to the station to get some documents that I needed to apply for maternity leave money.
After I got my documents from the station master and my husband bought his train ticket we went for a short stop to Starbucks.
Baby had been quiet so far, but she started the hunger cry while I was enjoying my coffee. I didn't want to go home yet, so I decided to feed her there. Unfortunately there is not breastfeeding room at the station, so I had to use the disabled toilet. I didn't want to touch anything in there, so I fed her standing up. It was so hot in there I felt so bad for the baby. It was literally like a sauna.
Once I had finished feeding her she calmed down a bit, but not much. I finished my coffee quickly and went back home with her.
I really miss going out more often. Hopefully soon she won't have to feed that often anymore.
Thursday we had to go to the hospital for the one month check up. I pumped some milk again before we left around noon.
Everything went well when we got there. Baby was very quiet and didn't cry. When the check up started however, she started to scream like crazy. I had never hear her scream like that, it made me really worried. She quickly calmed down again though when the check up was over and we gave her the milk I pumped.
The results of the check up were good, she was gaining weight quite well (already 4.6kg) and there was no problem. She does however have a strawberry mark the size of a euro coin on her back which we were told should get checked by a dermatologist.
Next up was my check up, which also went unproblamatic. My wound had healed well and there were no blood clots or anything in my uterus. Also the bleeding (lochia) had almost stopped fully.
After we went back home we went to my in-law's house and talked with them about the strawberry mark. We decided to go to the dermatologist as soon as possible, which meant the next day.
Friday we left really early, so we wouldn't have a long wait at the dermatologist.
I didn't get a lot of sleep that night, but I still managed to pump some milk in the morning to take with me.
We didn't have to wait long at the clinic. The doctor explained to us that the strawberry mark could heal on it's own, but it also might not and that we could facilitate the healing by doing laser treatment. We went with that option and ended up doing the first laser treatment that day. Baby cried during the procedure, which only lasted 5 seconds, but she immediately stopped after. I believe it was more from the shock than from pain. She definitely had cried more during the one month check up the day before.
The night from Friday to Saturday we had a again one four hour stretch of sleep for her l, but unfortunately the rest of the day she rarely went two hours between feeds.
The evening that day was especially bad. My husband was gone getting a haircut and the baby started crying like crazy. I didn't know how to make her stop and I was already so tired that day. I ended up having a short mental breakdown. I really wished that I wasn't alone and that my husband were home with me. She ended up being quiet once I fed her again. She was very fussy at the boob, so it was very hard to feed her though.
Sunday was the first day I had a friend over since I started maternity leave two months ago. I didn't notice how secluded I had become.
My friend (a former work colleague) came to visit in the afternoon. It was so nice to get some kind of life back after not socializing for so long. She also brought some banana qqbread and a present for the baby which was really nice. She stayed for a about two hours which was just the right amount of time.
Unfortunately in the evening baby went crazy again. I assumed it was because she was overtired.
I planned to take note of her sleeping time starting the next day!
