白いシャチのお話

2021年7月24日に北海道羅臼沖で観察された白いシャチ。
日本では2019年以来、日本国内では2度目の観察となりました。（世界的に見ても20例程しか観察されていない）
2019年は2度（別個体）確認され、2021年は1度に2頭の白いシャチを確認。
各種メディアでは「同一個体の恐れがある」と報道もありましたが、まだ確証はありませんでした。
2021年に確認された2頭の白いシャチの写真は、東海大学で海洋研究をされている大泉教授へ提供。
先日行われた会議にて、「写真の白いシャチは2019年7月に同じ海域で確認されたものと同個体である」という連絡を受けました。
　
2枚目の写真の丸で囲われた部分の特徴や背鰭の形状からの判断したとのこと。
この白いシャチを含むポッド（群れ）が定期的に羅臼沖に来るエリアに入っているかもしれないと思うと、まだ見ぬ次の出会いが楽しみですね。

A white orca observed off the coast of Rausu, Hokkaido on July 24, 2021.
This is the second observation in Japan since 2019. (Only about 20 cases have been observed worldwide)
In 2019, it was confirmed twice (separate body), and in 2021, two white orca were confirmed at a time.
There were reports in various media that there was a risk of the same individual, but there was no confirmation yet.
The photographs of the two white orca confirmed in 2021 are provided to Professor Oizumi, who is conducting marine research at Tokai University.
At a meeting held the other day, I was informed that the white orca in the photo is the same individual as the one confirmed in the same sea area in July 2019.
It was judged from the characteristics of the circled part in the second photo and the shape of the dorsal fin.
I'm looking forward to the next encounter I haven't seen yet, thinking that this pod containing white orca may be in the area that regularly comes off Rausu.
