Last Sunday I went to a movie theater to watch OPPENHEIMER directed by Christopher Nolan. After leaving the theater, I was confused a bit because OPPENHEIMER drived me crazy. Now I have limitless questions about this movie, starting with why Nolan had made this long and sad story. There are many boring, dumb movies in the world that are made to make people laugh for a while because we all need an entertainment to live another day. However, the movie, OPPENHEIMER, was not an entertainment at least for me. It made me want to investigate the details of this tragedy that occurred in my country about 80 years ago. I don't have any knowledge about the weapon. I know only of the miserable aftermath of the nuclear bomb. I think we should all go back to the pre-historic time where the best way to fight at the battle fields were to use eggs in place of stones, arrows, swords, guns, missiles and nuclear weapons. Recent NHK has been delivering us good TV programs like the butterfly effect and unsolved incidents. The theme of unsolved incidents of last week was the important tragedy occurred in Japan under the domination of GHQ. We Japanese call this incident the Shimoyama-jiken, meaning the top manager of Japanese railway so called kokutetu was killed somewhere and laid on the railroad and the train ran over him. They say his body lost almost all of the blood in his body. The biggest mystery of it was the fact that nobody knew who planned it. This TV program gave me limitless interests about this crime. I dare say this is crime and betray to the human rights of the people in defeated country of the global war. At the same time, I noticed that we Japanese had been too stupid in surviving the complex relationship between other countries.
I think that after the war, for about 80 years Japanese in general little by little lost the way of thinking as well as in having their own opinion. They have gotten the new and the magical habit of believing in trends easily. We have vanished long time floating with cheap trends. In my opinion, the first step to reestablish our own pride as an independent nation is to discover a new way of thinking about democracy, our constitution, and on education that would be the most appropriate for us in global eyes. And the most important thing is to have the responsibility as an individual person in order to keep our freedom.
