WABISUKE: A Fragrance Inspired by the Dawn Tea Ceremony
I'm pleased to announce the launch of Parfum Satori's highly anticipated new fragrance, "WABISUKE." Congratulations on this achievement.
Master perfumer Satori Osawa personally introduced the fragrance, accompanied by fragrance expert Yumi Jibiki. Their insights deepened my appreciation and understanding of "WABISUKE."
The fragrance draws inspiration from the "dawn tea ceremony," a special ritual in the Japanese tea ceremony tradition.
Satori-san described the scene: In the pre-dawn darkness of the tea room, as morning light begins to filter in, a single wabisuke camellia stands in the alcove. The moment light touches its base creates a serene tension. An ink painting adorns the background. As candlelight merges with the morning sun, the tea ceremony concludes.
The fragrance perfectly captures this evocative scene. The top notes feature patchouli and davana, followed by chamomile in the middle, and concluding with deep lingering notes of amber, ink, and agarwood. It exudes a noble, distinctly Japanese impression.
Satori-san reflects, "Through wabi-cha, Sen no Rikyu sought to convey that all individuals are free, unrestricted by social status or class." Indeed, Rikyu was conceptualizing and expressing a "new luxury" for his time.
