Grade Appeal Letter
(School name)
(Address)
Dear Director (name),
I am writing to appeal the grade I received in my Internship Course for Spring Semester in 2019. I believe there were situations that were beyond my control that contributed to my extreme low grade, and under an organized and appropriate system that our department was responsible to provide, I would have been able to score a much higher grade than 40 points.
The biggest issue with this Internship Course is that our program did not provide any clear written rules about the course at the beginning of the semester. There was no syllabus or official guidelines for this course although it is a required course for graduation. An available reference at the time was only “Graduate Handbook 2017 Fall”, however, it just briefly mentions very ambiguous concept of the course. "Internship Regulations (Draft)" was given to students for the first time on 4th October 2019, which was already in another semester. "Internship Regulations (Draft)" asks an internship adviser to held “an Internship Course Description Meeting” at the beginning of the semester, however, because the clear rules were not yet established in the previous semester, the meeting was never held. Also, the contact information of an internship adviser for this semester was not given to the students even though I personally asked to the previous program director and our department office. Hence, for both in written and verbal, the essential information such as course registration, the grade criteria, and credit fees was not shared until this semester started. I even could not access to the information because of the department’s neglected attitude towards students. Because of this lack of information, I registered the course before I finished 320 hours of internship. The course not having consistent and coherent guidelines caused confusion, misunderstanding, and was disconcerting to me, which resulted in the failure of the course.
I feel a sense of injustice that my grade is the result of our department’s inadequate and inaccurate course organization. For the reasons I mentioned above, I appeal to get my grade of Internship Course re-evaluated at the end of this semester only after I submit my report and an evaluation form from the internship institutions based on the official regulation rules.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
Sincerely yours,
Akari (Family name)
