Who shapes reality
There is a joke in English that goes something like this:
A says: You know what the Golden Rule is, don't you?
B replies: Yes it's "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
A says: No, it's "He who has the gold makes the rules."
What "B" said was the traditional Golden Rule and what "A" said jokingly seems more true than the traditional Golden Rule. Elon Musk is dismantling, destroying, reshaping Twitter. It cost him tens of billions of dollars to do so. I don't use Twitter, but I hear that it's important in many people's lives. This is the arrogance of the super-rich. They are not geniuses at anything but amassing obscene fortunes. They buy the fruits of creative people and reduce it to dollar signs. They collect art and, by their purchases, shape the public's opinion of what good art is. Good art is what they buy for millions of dollars and the rest of the artists starve. In fact many (not all) of the artists who created these works died in poverty. I can't help but think that Musk, in his arrogance, believes that Twitter, now called X, is going to keep its subscribership. But the Internet is fickle and is always looking for the next new thing. Musk's X is not a new thing, it's an old thing made worse.
And the people with the gold continue to make the rules.
