I was reading the "Note" of someone I recently followed and read their posts about the novel "Fahrenheit 451" so I dug out my old copy of the book for the image here. It reminded me of the recent spate of book bannings taking place in the U.S. even as I write this. The book bannings are being done by, the news tells us, the religious right. They say it's because they want parents to have a say in how their children are educated, but if fact they are banning anything that has what they consider to be a "left leaning" message in it for fear their precious children will someday be able to think for themselves (my interpretation). A handfull of right-wing activists are the source of the proposed and actual banning of thousands of books. An interesting note is that "Fahrenheit 451" has itself been banned several times.

It's one of the things that I definitely don't miss about the U.S..
