《日本文化》 「節分」を英語で伝えるには？
2月3日は、節分の日ですね。
「鬼は外、福は内」と言いながら豆を投げて、鬼を追い払うという文字にすると面白い日本行事です。
さて、これを日本文化を知らない人に英語で説明する場合なんて言ったらいいでしょうか。
会話形式でお届けします。
A) Do you know what the day is the 3rd of February called in Japan?
（日本で2月3日はなんて呼ばれるか知ってる？）
B) I have no idea at all.
（全くわからないなぁ。）
A) The day is called ”Setsubun”.
（節分って呼ばれているんだよ。）
B) SETSUBUN? What's that?
（セツブン？なにそれ？）
A) It’s kind of a funny Japanese traditional seasonal event.
It involves a tradition of throwing roasted soybeans.
（ちょっと面白い日本の伝統的な季節のイベントなんだけど、炒った大豆をまく習慣があるんだよ。）
B) Throwing roasted soybeans??
Sounds interesting! It’s hard to imagine, though.
（炒った大豆をまく？？
想像つかないけど、なんだか面白そうだね！）
A) It makes you more interesting though, people say ”Oni wa Soto, Fuku wa Uchi” when they throw soybeans.
（もっと面白がってもらえると思うんだけど、大豆を投げる時に「鬼は外、福は内」って言うんだよ。）
B) Wow, there is much more information!
What does the phrase mean, anyway?
（わぉ、もっと情報があったなんて！
それでさ、その言葉の意味ってどういう意味なの？）
A) The phrase means like “Out with the devil! In with good fortune”. The word, ”Oni” means devils or demons in Japanese and the word, ”Fuku” means a fortune or happiness in Japanese.
（「悪魔よ外へ！幸福よ中へ！」というような意味かな。「鬼」は日本語で悪魔という意味で、「福」は日本語で幸福という意味だよ。）
B) How great this event is!

(なんて素敵なイベントなんだ！
わたしも大豆を投げたぁぁい！！）
A) Throwing roasted soybeans was first practiced back in the Heian period, to stop oni from attacking villages by throwing beans at their eyes.
（豆まきは平安時代に鞍馬山の鬼が都で悪さをするのを、大豆を投げて鬼の目をつぶし、災難を逃れたのが始まりなんだよ。）
B) Oni wa Soto!!! Fuku wa Uchi!!!
A) Earth to B! Can you hear me?
（聞こえてますかー？）
B) Oops, then what do we do after throw soybeans?
（おっと。それで、豆をまいた後はなにするの？）
A) Once the beans are thrown, gather them all up and eat them.
（豆をまき終わったら、全部集めてから食べるんだ。)
B) EAT THEM?
（え！食べるの？）
A) Yep! Eat the same number of beans as your age.
Eat one extra to keep you from sickness and stay healthy for the whole year.
（そうそう、歳の数よりひとつ多く食べるとその年の1年風邪をひかず、健康でいることができるんだよ。）
B) It’s the best soybeans event in the world!!
（世界一の大豆イベントだね！！）
