手垢のついた表現だけど、たまに使われるので自分から使わなくとも知っておいたほうが便利な表現。

ほんとは話題の中心になっているべきで、皆気づいているのになぜか無視されている重要な事柄。

Low-hanging fruits

大した苦労なく達成できるゴール。

In the election year, incumbent presidents tend to aim at policies that are low-hanging fruits because they need to boost up their popularity in the short term.


選挙の年には現職の大統領は簡単に達成できる政策目標を狙いがちだ。短期間で人気を上げる必要があるから。

Catch 22

「キャッチ　トウェンティ トゥー」と発音。元ネタは同名の小説。ある条件Aを達成するためには、その条件下のみで可能な要素Bが必要で、よってAは達成できない、という状況。

In order to get a postdoc position at Oxbridge you practically have to be studying at Oxbridge, because internal candidates have huge advantages. So it’s kind of a Catch 22.
