Factfulness(ファクトフルネス)を読む—データによる誤解の発見・除去について
世界的ミリオンセラー、日本でも大きな反響を呼んだFactfulness(ファクトフルネス)を英語版で読んでいきます。今回は下記の前回扱った文章の続きです。誤解を取り除くことの必要条件はデータであり、その方法として4段階のレベルというフレームワークが重要であるという内容です。

What do you need to hunt, capture, and replace misconceptions? Data. You have to show the data and describe the reality behind it. So thank you, UNICEF data tables, thank you, bubble graphs, and thank you, internet. But you also need something more. Misconceptions disappear only if there is some equally simple but more relevant way of thinking to replace them. That’s what the four levels do.

hunt, capture, and replaceが文の動詞で、それら共通のOがmisconceptionです。Data.というシンプルなワードで前文の疑問に自問自答する形になっています。
You have to show the data and describe the reality <behind it>.
have to VのVはそれぞれ、showとdescribeです。behind itのitが指示する内容はthe dataと考えるのがここでは妥当でしょう。

thank you, の後に続く名詞・名詞句はそれぞれthe dataの具体例と捉えられます。
But you also need something more.
Butという逆接の接続詞によって、dataだけでは不十分だということを述べています。
needはここでは他動詞として用いられています。「を必要とする」の意味です。前出のneed to hunt, capture, and replace misconceptionsはneed to V「Vする必要がある」という義務を表します。
Misconceptions disappear <only if there is some equally simple but more relevant way (of thinking) <to replace them>)>.
S V M2の形で主節は非常にシンプルです。onlyはif節を「…である場合のみ」という形で限定します。equally simpleとmore relevantは続くwayを修飾します。relevantはここでは「関連する」ではなく「妥当な」の意味で使われています。of thinkingはM1としてwayを修飾する前置詞句。to replace them(= Misconceptions)はisを修飾するM2とも、wayを修飾するM1とも解釈可能ですが、ここでは前者の解釈をとっています。

Thatは前文を受けていると考えられます。doの後のOがないことから複合関係代名詞whatとして前に出てきています。
