航空機の仕組みを口述する：エンジンオイルの仕組み

エンジンオイルは、人間に例えれば血液のようなものです。複数の役割があり、その１つでも充分発揮されないとエンジンは停止したり、破壊されたりします。ですからエンジンオイルを利用する目的と使用方法については、完全に説明できるようにしておく必要があります。

エンジンオイルは２つの重要な機能を発揮します。エンジン可動部を潤滑し、摩擦軽減とシリンダーからの熱を取り除くことでエンジンを冷却します。一部の飛行機では、運用する季節によって異なる粘度のエンジンオイルを入れなければなりません。

Engine oil performs two important functions: It lubricates the moving parts of the engine and cools the engine by reducing friction and removing heat from the cylinders. Some airplanes must be filled with engine oil with different viscosities depending on the season in which they operate.

油量を計測するオイルフィルターキャップとディップスティックは、エンジンカウル内のパネルを通して触れることが出来ます。操縦士はオイルの色と量を暖機する前にチェックしなければなりません。エンジン始動後、操縦士は油圧と油温ゲージをみて、オイルシステムを監視します。

The oil filter cap and dipstick for measuring the oil quantity can be touched through the panel inside the engine cowl. The pilot must check the color and quantity of oil before warming up. After starting the engine, the pilot monitors the oil system by looking at the oil pressure and oil temperature gauges.

油圧ゲージは、オイルシステムの作動状況を直接表示します。正常下限に満たない場合、オイルポンプがエンジン全体へオイルを循環させるのに充分な油圧をかけていないことを意味し、正常上限を超える時はオイルラインが閉塞していることを示しているかも知れません。いずれにせよ上記のような場合、操縦士はオペレーションマニュアルに従って、直ちに適切な行動を取るべきです(即ち、エンジンを停止させるなど)。

The oil pressure gauge directly displays the operating status of the oil system. If it is below the normal lower limit, it means that the oil pump does not apply enough oil pressure to circulate oil throughout the engine, and if it exceeds the normal upper limit, it may indicate that the oil line is blocked. In any case, the pilot should take appropriate action immediately in accordance with the operation manual (i.e. shut down the engine, etc.).

油温ゲージは、同時にエンジンシステムを監視するのに役立ちます。油温は高出力の設定で飛行する際にチェックすることが特に重要です。油圧ゲージが通常圧の変化へ速やかに反応するのと異なり、油温は特に冬場ではもっと緩徐に反応します。

The oil temperature gauge helps monitor the engine system simultaneously. The oil temperature is especially important to check while flying with a high power setting. Unlike the oil pressure gauge, which usually reacts quickly to changes in pressure, changes in oil temperature occur more slowly, particularly in the winter days.
