I'm pretty curious

Anu

what are your favorite seasons? Summer the big one general Ron's like spring is universally the most popular.

Paul
0:17
I mean, if you like we don't really good seasons in California. So, bear.

0:22
But I've heard good things about the season called Spring.

Paul
0:26
It's a nice one is a nice one. All right, should we jump into it? Let's do it.

Anu
0:31
Let us do it.

Paul
0:32
Let's do it. All right. Weekly town hall. My name is Paul. I'm one of the cofounders clubhouse. I am here with my co founder Ron with our teammate on new and we do this every Sunday at 9am Pacific time. Today is the special what's today the special How is it already mid November edition. And we have a few different goals each week. One is to tell you a little bit about what's been happening in clubhouse this past week. And to acknowledge some of the amazing things that are happening in the user community. We talked a lot about product like what we shipped this past week what's coming up the next week, but I think the biggest goal townhall is to answer your questions. And so we devote most of our time to answering questions and we collect questions all the time so you can go to clubhouse comm scroll the bottom there's a link to submit your question for town hall. You can do that anytime you want anytime throughout the week anytime a question comes to mind just clubhouse calm and submit the question we take the most asked questions, the most popular questions of the week. And we compile them every Saturday and we answer them here today, every Sunday. And if you have other questions that we don't get to that you think of during this hour, feel free to shoot them our way go to come up with some of them there or you can hit us up in the back channel and we'll see if I can be quick enough and and we can get to more questions at the end. But that's basically the drill. So why don't we start with the highlights from the week and we will invite our teammate staff to come up Steph, Steph Steph. Hello, guys.

Stephanie

Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. My name wrong. My favorite part about that little exchange a little balance at the beginning about seasons like I hear spring is a good one. As if you're so disconnected from the concept, it was great. It was great. All right, let's dive in so many great highlights the sweet guys. I know obviously this is often talked about but so many small businesses went through a lot of ups and downs. Certainly in general but even this during the last year the pandemic but they come out sort of stronger at the end and that was really the basis of the conversation. That was in the your move club with Natalia Brzezinski, Julia hearts, who's the founder of Eventbrite. Greg Renfrew, who's the founder of Beautycounter. Just a great room, they were talking about how women businesses in particular have been impacted by the pandemic. This conversation really grew and evolved to the state of small business today. And we had a little surprise from Katie Kirk, who popped up on the stage from the audience. Oh, that was so cool. Yeah, yeah,

Paul
3:07
I know people are texting me like get a curse. I didn't realize it. It was awesome.

Stephanie
3:11
It was good. Always a pleasure to see her back and I have an inkling that we will see her having a good time again soon on clubhouse that's a little pun for you guys. That's that's not I know, guys.

Paul
3:24
I know you're doing a lot of intense into my I see what you're doing. No.

Stephanie
3:29
That's not the only surprise moment we had this past week. Kat Cole Mata Leka Sica and Katie stented hosted the integral editable bowl Huma habitant. I just am so impressed with her in a leadership lab to unpack her new memoir. Both and if you haven't, read it, please pick it up. It's incredible. But what a moment as she actually found out live in the room that her book hit the New York Times bestseller lists. It was so cool to hear that unfold. She got really emotional and she began to get emotional. You could feel Katy and medelita and cat really rally around her and she thanked him for her sisterhood. Like is that a really beautiful moment? Yeah, it's great. There's a great video of it on her Instagram if you want to see it for yourself. But like I said, we love moments like that on clubhouse because to witness

Paul
4:17
to spa logistical things one is on who is pinning things to these clubs. So if anyone wants to catch the next Conversations and go tap on that link and join the club, but also some of these have replaced enabled they can go back and experience the actual room

Stephanie
4:32
after and that and that is one of them but but

Paul
4:35
it's pretty cool.

Stephanie
4:37
Yes and great. Thank you so much for this two points, because this room in particular was one that was that is available on replay so please check it out. Great. We've actually seen and related to another feature that we rolled out recently, we've seen a lot of folks use pinned links to promote their books. Like I said, we did that in the leadership lab room. And that was actually part of what Katie Kirk came on stage to discuss. Like I said the intent I think we'll see some from her soon. And Sahil living actually the founder of Gumroad he also hopped in the room for creative Executive Officers Club. I think he's gonna paint a link to that. Yep, she's right on time to share a few of the many learnings from his new book, The minimalist entrepreneur, like I said, hosted by the creator of CEOs Sterling proffer. Great, great room. We were thrilled to hear from Holly Jackson about the debut of her new show Holly Jackson now, on NBC streaming Justin Higgins, welcome to our conversation and it was a very good banter between Justin and Holly. Unfortunately, I don't think they had that one on replay but you can I promise you his next room will be on replay. So be sure to continue to check out politics and media 101 MIT is another new favorite on clubhouse lately. And Dava Newman join John Warner of imagination and action to talk all things MIT Media Lab and working on the collaborative projects it both check out the club but if you also not familiar with the MIT Media Lab, they do some really, really cool stuff. So check them out as well. In the Health and Health Equity club. I use just Sebright of the black men connections and TL and Camilla Francis and Mohit rora. We're back again. The getting together for an honest conversation about the mental health experience this room really combined two of the things I think clubhouse is really best known for true honest representations of black culture and its many forms and subcultures and also going deep into mental health struggle struggles without judgment. Thanks to the creators, an audience that made this a really valuable and safe space. Like I said health equity check it out pinned link here. Yvette Vargas, creator of The New Hollywood club welcomed writer, producer and consultant Ligia via lovers Villa Lobos, I'm sorry, as they talked about the power of television and her experience working as a writer and entertainment. Another hint I know we have an incredible discussion coming up on a similar note about the future of improving representation and diversity in Hollywood. Coming soon with Zoe Saldana, Tiffany Haddish and Reese Witherspoon I think Paul might give us a mention as well but it's coming later this week. But the new Hollywood club can hear. I'm sure a lot of folks in this audience know about the snapback club, but as a close follower of fashion. That's me. It's a one of my personal favorites, so I have to give a special shout out shout out to Samia, grand Pierre and Lois Saucony. This week, the host got together to break down the top three streetwear news pieces. It's an essential club if you want to stay up to date on the latest in fashion. I think a lot of people obviously associate fashion with visual aesthetic but Samiha proves there's a lot to say about fashion on clubhouse. I simply must give a warm welcome for the return of the NYU girls roasting guys. They're back and picking up right where they left off. Roasting Charlie Puth and Diplo on his birthday no less. Yeah, that

Paul
7:51
was amazing. See that? COVID Well, I

Stephanie
7:55
texted him I was like Diplo these girls are there. They're poking and prodding for you. They're really giving you he's like, What is my birthday? And I was like, just join Go Go check it out. Anyway, he shared this story about how he changes his pants multiple times in a meal and one of the girls actually saw him do it at a restaurant in New York with and was truly like, really curious. It was pretty funny. Listen to the replay for that. Like I said, really funny. And finally very inspiring to see the small steps and giant leaps club hosting a beautiful and successful fundraiser for St. Jude's Children's Hospital fundraising has long been one of the most powerful uses of the platform. And we are always so honored to see the dedication that creators across the board bring to setting up these rooms. Thank you. Thank you, Jess, small steps and giant leaps pinned here so I'll give a second to tap that if you want to give them a follow. But otherwise, Paul, back

Paul
8:43
to you. Well steps and giant leaps is prolific. What a great club. So it's so great. Everyone should join to join it like we always try and prioritize clubs that are really active that are hosting lots of conversations and they're incredible. So plug for that. The you mentioned saw hillstream earlier this week so that helps. Great. So if people don't know him, he has a new book out called the minimalist entrepreneur. He was he was he's been a club so it's very early days. And I remember he he's also just an interesting guy. He was like the second employee at Pinterest and then he left and then he wrote this post that got a lot of attention years ago about his he was like reflecting on my failure to build a billion dollar company or something like that. It was yeah, no, that's right. It's how he kind of got off the venture cycle and did something that was more sustainable. Now he's built this really great sustainable business creating supporting creators. And but I remember in the early days of clubhouse, I was talking with him and he had moved to Utah and become a painter and, and all sorts of things that you don't typically associate with with, you know, tech entrepreneurs and and he we were chatting and I had the phone by the side and this was like in the early days of clubhouse, I think when everyone was a speaker still, and it was it was more than one room at the time, like everyone could talk. And we were chatting for like an hour about all sorts of deep topics and it was just I thought it was just him and me in the room and I was like laying down on my couch. And I asked him a question. And there was like a, I don't know, five second pause. And then Jason Crawford chimed in with an answer. And it was such a shock because I didn't realize there were 10 other people in the room the whole time. And it was it was just a really funny moment that I remember when we were still taking up that dynamics of like having people joined in the middle of conversations, but it but it's cool to see it was cool to see that room asylees been it's been a really important part of the the early days of the clubhouse community. Also, I love the way that people are using pin links for fundraisers. That's amazing. Like you mentioned the small steps and giant leaps fundraiser for St. Jude's Children's Hospital. But we're seeing people do it for lots of different fundraisers and tons of other stuff. I think in our first we're looking at stats in the first week. Pin links resulted in more than 1.6 million click throughs like the response rates are pretty crazy. And so many cool use cases like people selling books and sharing articles. YouTube clips is a big one. People sharing trailers to their movies or other people's movies. I think facial recognition comedy and Lila bar are both selling tickets to their comedy shows.

Stephanie
11:27
And she actually sold out for her show that was less than was on Friday night. Are you serious? Yeah. So many clubhouse people there.

Paul
11:35
That is awesome. That is awesome. In like sponsorships like Abraxis is doing sponsored him so that IWC watches I think where you can go from the brand side and it late nights early mornings is like breaking out all the previous announcements from the Disney plus presentation Friday. It really adds an important dimension to the room. Like oh, another one I'm looking forward to you. Neil Stevenson is coming on tomorrow night like Snow Crash Neil Stevenson, and he's talking about how he invented the concept of the term Metaverse in 1992. And they're gonna use that to link to a copy of his new book in the science fiction club. So if you're not part of science fiction club, you should be because Neil Stevenson is coming out tomorrow which is crazy. And the really cool thing with replays is that they the pin links are live after the fact so anyone who listens to the replay for days for weeks for months can can tap through on the pin links from that specific segment in the conversation. And there are a bunch of other rooms coming up this week. You mentioned some of them. I know that BCA club has some cool plans for for doing a conversation, I think you mentioned was always held on Reese Witherspoon and Tiffany Haddish on Tuesday. That's around elevating women as creators and I think they're going to be using the feature there as well. So pin links has been awesome. And I'm really excited to think about how we can enhance that.

Paul
13:01
Okay, probably a good segue to product. Let's talk a little bit about what we shipped this past week. And then what's coming up next week. And then we'll go into q&a, which are pretty product centric. This week, I think so this past week. Well, week before that we did localization into 13 new languages, starting with Android and that's been really, really exciting to see. And then this past week we did replays which is a huge evolution of the clubhouse products I want to talk about that in a little bit more of a detailed way so so there's a blog post you can go to my blog, clubhouse calm. But but just at a high level. The way we were thinking about it is that you know, a clubhouse room this experience right here. It's on you always says that it's surprisingly visual. You know, it's much more than a live podcast. It's it's this shared place where people are gathering and community happens and people are coming together. Everyone knows what it's like to see people come up on stage and move down from the stage and the room shrinks and grows and new topics form. creators take questions they share links to things that the group is discussing. And like friends will talk for hours about all sorts of different topics and the final room ends up looking nothing like the initial room. And you know, it's I think audio alone doesn't doesn't do it justice, even though it's an audio app. And so when we set out to build replays, we wanted to create something that tried to capture that magic and that energy of the live clubhouse room and and this is the first version of it. And the reason replays are so important is there's so many people creating amazing moments creating amazing conversations. And and this subset of people they want these conversations to live on. You know, there are other conversations that are off the record and they're meant to be ephemeral but some of them people want to have them live on and, and replays allow them to do that on clubhouse and off of clubhouse. So we started to roll it out last week on both iOS and Android and the way a term we use often internally is live but later, we want to feel alive that that the available anytime. So it's an optional feature that creators can choose to have on or off. It's only enabled for public rooms right now. And when they are enabled, anyone on clubhouse can replay the entire experience whenever they like. They'll see the same elements. They'll see the leave quietly button and watch the stage. You know grow over time, they'll see PTRs they'll see Mike taps they'll see all special clubhouse moments that they're used to seeing in the live rooms and having been having used it quite a bit now. It really feels like you're in the room like it feels like you're in the live room. It's pretty crazy. I mentioned before you can pin links to any segment and so people are using it for polls and monetization and surveys and sharing videos. The pin links remain active in the replay. So you can have 20 different pin links. And when people are consuming your show after the fact it's directly there in line and so they can go tap out to anything you want. So you can continue to have that engagement. You can continue to have people fill out your survey you can continue to give people context for the stuff you're talking about. You can continue to monetize in perpetuity from your replays. So that's a really cool feature. Another one which we love is the skip to the next speaker button. So you don't have a lot of audio apps you can skip forward 30 seconds if you want to speed things up. That's really cool. It's really functional. clubhouse is very people centric, right it's not like a podcast where you have one person talking. It's a room and oftentimes you might be more interested in hearing what one person has to say than what someone else has to say. So we have a button where you can skip forward to the next speaker. And it's awesome. And I think in our in our little trailer video we did an example from town hall where

Stephanie
16:48
I was just going to say if you're listening to the replay, right yeah, skip ahead to ANU

Paul
16:54
audio. Like oh, I have so many thoughts about that one and then they skipped speaker to the next person.

Anu
17:02
I bring I bring the efficiency so if you see my face

Paul
17:09
and so you could skip the next speaker which is something really cool about us. You can also do things that you could expect to do you can pause you can play you can scrub, you can clip still from a replay, you can listen at 1.5 that you can listen to two acts so so lots of cool features in terms of how you want to consume it. You can also see who's joining so with podcasting it's hard to know your audience but we clubhouse the people are the experience like the people who are in the room that defines the experience and and it's the same thing with replays as it is with live rooms. So as a creator you can see the people in the room you can see who's listening during the room. You can see us listening after the fact you can share that experience with them. You can connect with them. And so it's just like a live room in that regard. And allows you to know your audience in a much better way than you might from just creating an audio file and putting it out there. And we want to make sure that you have control so if you ever want to hide yourself from the audience or replay, you can just tap on the three dots in the room and you can add yourself from from there. As a creator you can also download the source file. So you can download the audio. You can edit it you can do whatever you want with it. You can make it a podcast, you can make clips of it on YouTube you can make an Instagram story a tick tock video, you can embed it in your article. You can embed it in your newsletter or anywhere else. And so that replay will be discoverable within clubhouse on the club pages on speakers profiles and search starting next week and a bunch of other places. But it can also live anywhere you wanted to live across the internet. And the last thing that's worth calling out I think is total attendee count a lot of times in clubhouse we, I mean, historically, we've only shown you the concurrent number of people in the room and that's useful for informing whether you want to jump into a room, like a three person room is really different. From a 300 person room. But as a creator, it's a pretty incomplete set of information. And so now in addition to the concurrent count, as as a creator, you can see the queue so it's pretty amazing to see the the reach that a lot of these rooms get and not even distributing replace right now. And we're gonna start doing that this week and introduce all sorts of features that allow people to share them, but it's really nice if you're working with a brand or if you just want to measure the impact of your room and how well certain content Did you can now see the total attendee count from from the time you started the room right at the top of the room. And I'm sure we're gonna get a lot of questions. I'm sure we receive a lot of questions about replays and we're going to iterate on them based on your feedback, but that's sort of the overview. After townhall, you'll be able to go to clubhouse HQ, you can go to my profile, Ron's profile on these profiles desk profile and you can listen to a replay of this room if you want to see what they look like and experience it but we're really excited about replacements a huge evolution of the clubhouse experience and much more to come there. So So replace is the first is probably the biggest thing that we rolled out this past week. All right, looking ahead, this week's release. We're going to be focused on some under the hood improvements as we get ready for some fun and much requested features and the next wave of language localization is happening later this month. But there are a few things that we're rolling out this week that we're really proud of that were that are probably worth mentioning the first is we're going to be beginning to roll out closed captioning this week. And this is something that we're we're so excited about you know, when we talk about letting everyone experience clubhouse in a way that feels native to them. It's not just localization, its accessibility and, and so we're gonna roll up closed captioning starting on iOS. Initially, it'll work across 13 languages across 23 locales, which are basically countries that speak a different, you know, that speak that same language but you know, UK English versus US English, and we're adding Android support and more language support to follow the the one thing that I want to call out is that the this is we're going to be rolling out collecting feedback like we always do with features our Clubhouse so so we consider this a beta release.

Paul
21:12
You know, probably the official release for English beta for the other languages that we're supporting. Some of them will have higher quality translations initially than others. We're gonna we're gonna make sure that we get a ton of feedback and we we make them better and better and better over time. And then continue to roll out more languages and and Android support support as a fastball. So that's gonna be rolling up this week. And that that's the thing that we're most excited about. And then we're also going to start distributing replays to you in more places. So you'll start to see replays, carousels in the hallway, that show you rooms from people you follow and clubs, you're a part of that you might have missed. And you know, maybe there'll be some trending replays personalized replays to you. We're also going to start putting replays in universal search. So if you wanted to find one of those rooms that you had mentioned stuff, you'll be able to search and search for the name of the replay itself, and it will come up there and you can listen to it. There's a lot more that we're going to be adding to help you discover and interact with replays. But those are the ones that are coming up this week. And then the weeks to follow are going to be really exciting. We've got some some features that I'm I'm just thrilled about that are gonna be coming out in the coming weeks. So so that's it for the product roadmap to go into q&a.

Anu
22:33
Yes, we should. I was gonna say Thanks for Thanks for answering some of the questions I'm about to ask.

Paul
22:39
You're like well, we're done. It's not gonna be fine, we're good.

Anu
22:43
But as he said, replays was obviously one of our huge, huge recent launches. So we've seen lots of excitement in the community and with creators around replays and therefore, lots of questions about what comes next place. Let me start with a slew of those. And we can add on to anything that you've kind of already touched on a bit. Okay. So replays in terms of how they work. If I schedule an event ahead of time, will I have the option to turn on replays before I start my room?

Paul
23:17
Yes. So that's crazy that you can't do that right now. And that so for anyone who you might not have the context here, when you tap the green button to start a room, right now, the composer has a little toggle where you can have replays on or off if it's a public room. If you already had a previously scheduled room, and you tap the green button to start the room, it'll say, Oh, are you trying to start that room that you put in the calendar last week? Because it's scheduled to start within the next 10 minutes and you say yes, it directly starts the room. And that means it skips the replay toggle, which is crazy. And we are going to fix that. And so we are redoing the composer, which is what we call the thing that shows when you tap that green button in the hallway, we're redoing the composer right now. And we're shipping out a new version of that, that will let you indicate that you want to have replace on but it'll also allow you to get your room set up you'll be able to add a pin link ahead of time and and do some other important things before the room starts. So once people start coming in, you've already got everything set up.

Anu
24:33
Perfect. I know that was quick feedback that we got from folks. So super helpful.

Paul
24:37
So on the right right now, like for all the events that are happening this week, that are already in the calendar, how is that actually working with replay enablement? Are they and we can figure this out offline if this is not a quick answer, but yeah,

Anu
24:52
it's not it's not a quick answer. I mean, ideally the best thing would be to recreate it as an event right now but we have found some work around to be able to do that. If you are working with our Creator team for example stuff I don't know if you have any additional thoughts, but it's not a super easy thing right now as far as I know.

Paul
25:09
Okay, perfect, good reason for us to ship that feature really soon. Yes. And in the meantime, if there's if you have a big event, and this is a this is an issue, like the best way to do it would be to is contacting partnerships at or is it to create it as a live room?

Anu
25:27
I mean, honestly, probably just DM one of us stabbed everybody else on the you know, kind of creator partnerships team. That's probably the quickest way to do it rather than email if it's like happening now. But yes, email always works. Okay, that makes sense. Okay, perfect. So a lot of questions around how replays are going to be discoverable. So let me hit you with some of those. Will you be creating a way to place the replays into categories or folders to allow for better organization? Right now, I guess the context is they're just in reverse chronological order.

Paul
26:03
Ooh, does that mean within a club like the replays that I have created or the repays plays that I would like to consume?

Anu
26:10
Oh, good question. I think it's more from the Creator side. So I imagine on the club profile or a user profile,

Paul
26:18
right, we um, so TBD we're, we're we're having very active discussions about how we want to do all this stuff. Right now, this is one that I haven't even thought about. And it's a very interesting request. So right now they're like, as you mentioned, they're just reverse Cron. And so the most recent ones will appear at the top. And I guess the short answer is if this is something that a lot of clubs would find useful, please let us know. And tell us describe the use case in as much detail as you can. And, and yeah, I mean, we so much of what we build is based on feedback that we get in rooms like this and things that we hear from from the from the user community, so we don't have plans to do that right now. But if you have a need for that, please let us know. And we'll see what we can do.

Anu
27:11
Okay, another question. Kind of you already answered part of this question, but a sub question could you allow the option to Find Replace for classrooms by clicking on the actual club, in addition to anyone who was in the room? So I know we I don't know if this already been fixed, but I think at some point, tapping on the club in a

Paul
27:33
Yeah. Ron replace I mean, replaced 100% should be listed on club profiles. Ron, do you know if they currently are or that's something that we're rolling out this week?

Anu
27:46
So my take is they are unless I'm just dealing with challenges that I only see what I would see as a creator so I'm not 100% sure if everybody who is would be a listener sees it. So that's the sub question.

Paul
27:57
Got it. Okay. Well, I will. Why don't I take an action item on anyone on the team here? This, let me know because my understanding is they should be listed on club profiles. And

Anu
28:11
I just got an answer from from a few folks in the community already. They are listed. Okay. Maybe this was a change that we made already. Or if it's unique to a few folks who have submitted this because there are quite a few that did maybe it's a bug. So I would say please report that to us if you still happen to see that.

Paul
28:27
Yep, that sounds great. And we'll we'll ping the team to and just see if anyone knows as heard of this bug or something happened because they should be listed on club profiles if the club hosted the room.

Anu
28:36
Perfect, but I'm very excited about how we can better organize because I think I've actually already got rid of that request.

Paul
28:43
Can you tell me more Well, I think

Anu
28:49
there's a few things. I think that number one if you're a club that hosts different types of rooms. So let's say if you're a club that has a show, and you always do the same show, I think it might be less of a question than if you are a club that hosts many types of conversations. And you'd want to organize light conversations together.

Paul
29:07
Yeah, it's well this is basically like channels and shows right? Like Do we have another layer where you have one club that has different series? Yeah, I can totally see that. I think that's a that's like a broader clubhouse feeds

Anu
29:19
into our recurring feeds into our recurring event recurring series questions.

Paul
29:24
Yeah, totally. Totally. Is that the main way you would want to organize? Um,

Anu
29:31
I think that is I mean, I think some people have had, you know, more sophisticated asks around even the chronology of it so like, within a month, where you can kind of expand or zoom in or a year for example, as we start to get into years of time with

Paul
29:48
that I can imagine as you could have, by recency and by popularity, yes, it might just be like a, you know, generated by by just automatically generated based on like, listens and engagement

Anu
30:01
to your popularity. One I know that this came up in the future orientation and I think Patti and other spoke to it earlier this week, um, ability to pin us totally, totally Yeah, on reception, you know, that represents the club, or represent yourself as a speaker. I think that's going to be super important too, in the vein of just organizing.

Stephanie
30:20
Yeah. The only thing I'd add is just the ability in general to curate, I think that we all there's going to be many different ways people want to curate on several of them based on what you describe, but I think just in general, the ability to curate that will be important. I've already gotten on the back channel by several people.

Paul
30:38
You know what I found I was listening to a room that Nick did the other night, and I was just working and listening to it, and I really enjoyed it. And I really wanted to just go to the next room that he had, that he the next replay that he had that was kind of in that series, and so I went to his profile and I did it. But making making that easier. That makes a ton of sense because I can I can completely see people wanting to listen to multiple replays in a row.

Anu
31:08
People want to listen to multiple town halls in a row, right? That Oh

Anu
31:19
Okay. On that note, okay, let me let me do the second half of these replace questions on ideas. Okay. Um, so this was to staff question, maybe around discovery and creation, but like, how would I be able to find replays from other clubs that might be interesting to me. So you know, right now, I think people know which club to go to, to look for something, or which speaker to go to, to look for something. What are we planning to do to help with discovery?

Paul
31:47
I think that's like a stay tuned, because we're doing a lot on that front. So step one is right now it's kind of crazy. You do a room and there's nothing that lets people discover you replay like literally there. No, it's not in the hallway. There's no activity feed. There's no way to share it. It's just like, the only way they will find it is that they happen to go to your profile and tap on it. And and so what we want to do is make it really easy for you to find, like adding them to search which we're doing this week, and, and a bunch of other things but then we also want to help you discover them by showing them proactively to you if we think that they might be interesting to you. So, you know, it's gonna be interesting to think through the balance of live versus replays. That that's something we're frankly, we're just gonna learn a lot over the coming month or so. Right? But the short answer is that if you if there's a replay that we think you would find really interesting, then we should show it to you somehow. And that's kind of on us.

Anu
32:55
Quick, quick mechanic one, how much time are replays available on user or creators? profiles will change in the future?

Paul
33:05
Yeah, so one thing before I mentioned it is on the last question, I'm saying that's kind of on us. Time. I was gonna think in the meantime, well, what the best thing someone can do today, until we have those features, the best thing I'd say someone can do today is like if there are people who you think are interesting, then go to their profile, see what clubs they they're an admin of what clubs are a leader and, and you can display. That way. You can search by keyword and find some of the top clubs by keyword just using search at the top of the hallway then go to the club pages and and see the replace there. That's it. But you know, a lot more to come there over the coming week. So like that, that should be improving pretty quickly. Now, the next question you asked was, how long are replays available on people's profiles? There, there's no link to them right now. So they're available for indefinitely unless you choose to remove them. So if you're the creator, you can delete them completely. Anytime you want. And you can also do that while those of you turned replays on and then maybe you there's something you know that something happens during the show where you're like, actually, I don't want this thing to be available as replay. You can delete the replay in the middle of the room. So so no one will be able to listen to it. So know that you you always have control over that. And same thing is true after the room ends as the creator you can delete it whenever you want, and it will be removed. And if it's not your you came up and you spoke in a room and you just don't want it on your profile you can remove from your profile anytime you want. So it's kind of like yourself from a photo. So so there's no default they delete you, as the creator can choose.

Anu
35:01
Yes, it is live but forever.

Paul
35:06
Unless you don't want it

Anu
35:07
to Yes. You don't want it to be asterisk. Sorry, no, just gonna say it's interesting because I didn't mention this earlier this week. But I'd like production and replays and clips is like had a lot of interesting discussion around time as a dimension in clubhouse. Yeah. And so I think that's where we get a lot of questions. From, because it's a new new realm.

Paul
35:25
Yeah, totally. And, and there's your floor there, right. It's all of this stuff is we're gonna learn a lot and evolve it based on what hear from people.

Anu
35:37
Perfect. Okay. Question about kind of the visual aspect of replays So will there be any kind of visual feature like you have for clips when you download a replay for example, obviously when you're in the app listening to the replay, it looks just like a room

Paul
35:53
okay, so for what the Creator when the Creator downloads? I think so. Yeah, I think there will be so in v1, v1 is if you want it's just audio. But we're we're actively thinking through what that should look like in the future. Because, you know, podcasting is a big use case where people want to cross post to a podcast, but maybe they want to create, maybe they want to post the whole thing to YouTube or something like that. So So we're thinking through and be best for that. And you can also as the creator, create clips from your replay within the app. So you can go to the app and if you want to just create like little snippets, little segments, you can share out to social, you can create clips from them from within clubhouse and that will have all the visuals that clips have.

Anu
36:47
Alright, perfect. Let's see if we covered a few of these. But let me let me give you one more that I think is interesting one, we won't be able to know whether a room is on is on the replay. I guess whether a room is going to have replays on or not from the hallway but without entering the room. So I think right now you can't really tell the difference between a room that has results or not. From the

Paul
37:14
Yeah, so I think it's a good idea. Obviously, like you have limited real estate to communicate information from the hallway. And but but it feels like that would be a useful one to have. So we we don't have a timeline for it. But I think that that would be a good thing to add.

Anu
37:33
Yeah, one thing I've heard is that you know, the flip side of that now is like people want to know even more so whether something is live only and will not have replays so that's another thing I've heard asked in terms called that more explicitly. Yeah, that makes sense. Perfect. Okay, a couple questions around pin links. When do you expect a pin that link carousel option and how would that work with replace?

Paul
38:01
So I we definitely want to do the pin link care. So I'm not sure of the launch date for that yet. And the main thing to figure out is if you have a pin link carousel, to what extent is the focus of the carousel like which link is in the main view, controlled by mods versus the audience? Right, because it could be that the mod has a narrative and wants to take you through a series of links. But it could be that you as an audience member want to flip through a bunch of different links. Or maybe the mod wants to have three legs available. To anyone at any point in time. And and like let the audience choose how to cycle through them. So that's that's the one thing that I think we probably need to figure out. And that would affect what the replay looks like, you know, if it was mind controlled, then then what would happen is wherever the market focused it and if it's user controlled, and I imagine that the user in the Republic also be able to do or sell at any time, but that is a guess because we haven't fully expect that out yet. As far as I

Anu
39:20
know. Okay, and then we've seen a lot of this already, but I love that this questions being asked, Are we able to use pin links to link to donation or commerce related sites in rooms?

Paul
39:37
Yes. Boom.

Stephanie
39:40
That's my favorite. My favorite. Yes. No. Maybe. So they're,

Anu
39:47
I mean, they're exactly

Paul
39:51
yeah. I mean, you can't do anything that would violate the community guidelines, but there's nothing in the committee guidelines set that just prohibits that. You know, I think like we want to support commerce use cases we want to support fundraisers and all sorts of things like

Anu
40:07
that. Okay, um, quick one on universal search from our astute user observations. I love the Universal Search feature. It's been such a great addition to the platform. One challenge is that the search bar is now only available at the top of the feed. If you click on the Search icon in the upper left hand corner, it doesn't have a search bar. Can we kind of reconcile these? I guess it's the question.

Paul
40:31
Just so the there should not be a search icon in the upper left of the sea,

Anu
40:37
for sure. It's an Explorer icon, I think. But I think maybe just so used to searching there and there's like, there's discovery there and maybe people want to search within that or

Paul
40:47
I think that's yeah, I am. I think that the is the idea that the person is already in the Explorer, the sort of browse tab and then decides they want to search and they don't want to have to go back to the hallway for it.

Anu
41:04
I mean, that's probably one way to kind of excited I think, if I were to zoom out, I feel like it just it feels like there are two different search surfaces and one is looking through a list that we show you and the other is intentional search. And maybe people are kind of trying to figure out how to use the two together, or separately and so they feel like it'd be helpful to have a search that is universal across the Explorer suggestions.

Paul
41:29
Yeah, I think that to be able to search you should be able to access search from pretty much anywhere where you would want to search. But I but I think that we could do better with the Explorer tab now. And so there's I don't know, if we'll just add a search bar there. We'll do something different. But but in the meantime, you don't even have to go into the Export tab to search. And if I think my guess is that the use case that this person is hitting on is like I'm already in there. I'm browsing. I don't want to have to go back to the hallway to search, or do you think that it's under Do you think that it is within a topic or within a category I want to search for a club or like a sub topic?

Anu
42:15
Yeah, it's a good question is like do you actually want almost like more filters on sir?

Paul
42:21
Yeah, I guess what I would say is if you ask this question, please. You could provide a bit more detail around like the specific use case like why it would be useful to have it there when it's already in the hallway, let me know. Because I'm sure we can do better with that. With that with that screen. Right now.

Anu
42:36
Perfect. Okay. And then this is actually very similar to the question about by any chance we could have a scissor icon or clips icon in the feed on rooms, so we know that clips are enabled.

Paul
42:50
clips and replays are coupled right now. So as clips are on replays are on so I think this goes back to the same question that you had.

Anu
43:00
Yeah, and I know we're gonna, I think we have more we can articulate probably on clips and replays and how we're going to think about that. What excited

Paul
43:09
clips are on is that if your desires to go in, and

Anu
43:15
you mean versus being in a fight winner in the room?

Paul
43:18
Yeah, exactly. Because if you enter the room, you're in the audience, and then you can see whether clips or replays are on.

Anu
43:23
Yeah. And, you know, I don't want to assume the intent of this person's question, but I feel like it might relate in general to knowing whether a room is going to be able to be recorded, and you can actually take clips from the room. But yes, if there's a specific reason that you did this unrelated to replace or ephemerality versus not then please let us know. Yeah, yeah. Perfect. Okay. Shall we do some rapid fire questions out? Discovery and all of our existing features? Yes, we've gone through recent features. Yes, perfect. Okay, I call this the Android feature rollout check in when will the Replace feature, the plus Room button, new design room links, kind of a slew of recent stuff that we have launched on iOS be 100% available for android users? I don't know if this is a question for our discovery team or if you know the answer to this poll in terms of

Paul
44:22
that rolled out yeah, let me let me take a crack at it. So just for context, some features we roll out iOS first, and some features we roll out Android first. Occasionally, we'll roll them out at the same time because it's really important to have them both available for something like back channel. But generally we try to roll them out of one platform first so that we can quickly learn and to ship stuff for you faster and have faster iteration cycles. And then once we have the feature, right, then we roll it out on both platforms. And so we kind of alternate summer iOS, summer Android, on replays, those are on both platforms. So if you don't see replays, then maybe you're not on the latest version of the app. So just make sure you're updated on the latest version of the app, the plus room, new design. Room links, were actually we were doing another rev of the composer. So we'll probably go straight to that. And that's like in the coming weeks and I don't yet know the iOS Android sequencing on that. But But I can, I can try and look up all the talking. But I think we're gonna go straight and then Oh, hold on one second. I'm just searching for our launch calendar doc right now we're talking

45:41
real time, real time.

Paul
45:47
Yep, so real composer will come out at the same time when iOS and Android will actually Patti just said we're gonna do Android first. So that'll be that'll be in the coming weeks. And then on the report room Pytel from the hallway and clubs member of redesign. Okay, so this person is actually asking when will some of these things be rolled out? Okay, so the next one is when his report room title for iOS and the club's redesigned for iOS going to be rolled out? I don't know. But my guess is the next couple of weeks and Patti if you have more detail on that, please let me know. So specifically, the report room title from the hallway and changing the app language and also the new clubs redesign on profile.

Anu
46:50
All right, real time,

Paul
46:52
real time. We'll see my guess next.

Anu
46:58
Okay, perfect. Patti. Please just DM us if you have an update before we wrap up on questions, okay. Perfect. Okay, club member pings will clubhouse make pinging from the club members list available especially for club schedule groups. Right now the feedback we're getting is you can't ping people that you don't follow just because they are a member of the club. Or they don't follow you. Excuse me.

Paul
47:27
I don't know the answer to this. So this is if i Is this just if I'm in a club or if I am or if I am in a club with someone.

Anu
47:39
I think this question doesn't specify but I imagine if you're an admin, you'd have stronger desire to want to be able to pin people from the club. If you're just a member of the club, I think that desire maybe less strong but maybe still helpful.

Paul
47:53
So I think that if you're just a member of a club, you should not be able to ping every member in a club. You know, and and I think I'm not sure what our philosophy is here. But I think if you're a club admin, you probably shouldn't be able to ping everyone who's in the club because they've already been notified that the room is starting I think so. So the balance here is always like we want you to be able to reach people. If they have agreed to let you reach them. And if someone follows you, that really lets you that's sort of there's them saying that you have the right to distribute content to them. And clubs are a tricky one because in theory by joining a club, someone has given you that right. But we also want to make sure that that people aren't sort of bulk abusing that because it would be a bad experience for the people on the other end. And so if someone is a member of your club, but they don't follow you, can you ping them? It's a good question. I don't know where we fall out on the balance. There. And and it's not something that we have on the roadmap right now. I think that I also just think like, that's not the best. That shouldn't be the best way for you to get someone into the room. You shouldn't have to go and individually ping every person the ping is really meant to say hey, this room is specifically interesting to you because you have expertise in the air about this topic. It's meant to be giving up members aren't finding out about the rooms. That's probably because we don't do a good job of letting people know that these rooms are happening in advance not we don't do a good enough job of letting people share the rooms we don't do a good enough job letting people find the rooms and that's all the stuff that we're focusing on trying to fix it the right way.

Anu
49:34
Yeah, I think that makes a lot of sense. But I know we're gonna think about it more as always, yeah. Okay, so, a few more quick questions on and try to get in so about getting notifications on great conversations now that we have replays. In the future will there be a way to get notified either about replays that are available or even pop replays of the day, for example.

Paul
50:02
So notification could mean like an activity feed item or it could mean a push notice. I think yes, there will be ways to know about plays should listen to 100%. unrolling the first versions of this week, push be we tried to be judicious about that. And you know, clubhouse it's interesting cuz it's a live service. So if you don't get push notifications, it doesn't work very well because because you won't know when people you care about or speaking. Replays kind of changes that and our philosophy is generally we push notifications when it's something that's time sensitive, like alignment, or like someone messages you need to reply, so we will probably use them much less often for replays than we would for live rooms. Okay, we got to build interim feedback because whenever there's applause, there's like, Please give me five seconds to silently applaud.

Anu
51:09
I have to applaud that I'm very, very excited about just honestly just like, we have a lot of great replays already in great conversations, but we just like need more ways to be able to actually make those visible audible available to people. So I'm very excited about all of it, Tony it's totally okay. audience feedback persistently a question. I don't want to spend too much time on it. But like, is this something we're thinking about? You know, and maybe on what timeline might we be thinking about

Paul
51:38
this? Sorry, did you say in room feedback? Yeah. audience feedback so

Anu
51:43
in room feedback, you know, you're interesting to think about it in a replays world actually, but yeah, oh, now library.

Paul
51:49
So we're thinking about this now. And and we're thinking about all different forms of feedback. If you think about it, some there's a lot of feedback you can get right? Someone new, listen to your replay. Someone clipped your room, someone shared your room, someone like it could be in room feedback. There could be other things that we add, and those could be for live rooms. It could be for replays. There's also, you might want to know if someone who you follow Eclipse some other room and you know, like there's a bunch of feedback that we can give you. Some of it might be private, some of it might be public. So I was sketching out a big matrix. Let's try to map out how all of this stuff should have. In my mind, at least, so it's something we're thinking about now. We don't have any specific launch timeline for it, but if we're actively thinking about it.

Anu
52:45
Okay, fun, fun request would you consider adding support for short audio clips to profiles that would either introduce themselves or educate people on how to pronounce their names is his feedback for us pronouncing names in our content? I'm not entirely sure.

Stephanie
53:04
I really do. You do?

Anu
53:07
I mean, people don't know okay, we rigorously go through a name pronunciations. But yeah, that's you know, I think a lot of other uses for short audio clips on profiles, but this might be one.

Paul
53:20
I really liked the idea for pronunciation, the sort of one of our one of our philosophies for product development. If there's a good workaround for it, we probably price it less urgently. And so for naming, a lot of people just write it at the top of their bio, and that's helpful but I think that I think there's gonna be a lot that we learned about how people want to use audio in asynchronous ways, and I definitely wouldn't roll that out. I think there's all sorts of stuff that that we could do. name pronunciation, it's not something that's on our roadmap for the next couple of weeks, you know, but because I think the workaround is just to write it at the top of the bio. But I'm really excited to see what we learn and what people want to do with async content because it's just, it's just really different. You know, it's a big evolution of the platform. Okay, two more

Anu
54:17
two more, and then are now weekly, and question. So, one, will you share room analytics with creators? I know we're thinking about this actively. Any quick updated thoughts on this?

Paul
54:29
Yes, we will. And, and so we, you know, the first is the last couple of weeks, there are a couple things that that that I think are kind of the beginning steps there. One is the total attendee count that your room and and that's something that is really useful because it's the equivalent of like the number of lessons you would get on a podcast, right? And that's something that you can share. You can see the specific people who are listening to your room, which isn't, you know, there's nothing about that, but it's actually like very rich. And the third thing I'd say is pin links. Like a lot of people have been messaging us and saying, oh my gosh, I got so many clicks from my pin link. And they use Google Analytics. So they use something like that. And so they can tell how many, how many links that they're getting. What we want to do is make that easier and easier. The one thing I'd say on the analytics front that that that we'd like to do is to be very thoughtful about giving you analytics that are useful. And not just here is a dump of, you know, every metric you could get, because I feel like I feel like data with data. Often people are attracted to data visualizations because they're they look interesting, but they're not really actionable. There's not much that you can do. It doesn't make it easy for you to know what to do differently to make them go up. So what we really want to do is be thoughtful about the analytics that we give you so you can use it to shape the guests you have on the topics you talked about the time you host your show. Like so you can just get better and better and better based on those analytics. And so we're we're digging into that right now.

Anu
56:14
Perfect. Yes, I know, Stephen, I've been talking with John and Adrian and others about

Paul
56:18
this. Oh, that's great. There's work to be done.

Anu
56:21
Okay. Quick question about monetization. Will. Okay, so by the time we build payments for club memberships and events so ticketed events, do we think that we will have payments itself available globally? Because I think in past town halls, we can ask questions about when will club memberships and ticketed events be available? And so the question is, Will everybody around the world will be able?

Paul
56:51
So I don't know the exact timing for any of this stuff. So can't say yes or no. But we are taking a global lens on this. And we are going through and looking at all of the requirements for for this stuff in each country. And and the other thing that I want to call out is it's not binary, like one country or every country. A lot of times there are country specific or regional region specific radio regulations, or payment systems or other things that you need to deal with. And so, we'll look at we'll look at it probably in like country by country, region by region basis. And but by our lens is absolutely global. And then the sequencing the stuff is we we know monetization is really important pin links that are that are that you can interact with in perpetuity, or are something that we actually think of with with a real monetization lens, all the other features that we're talking about really important too. We think that this stuff to help you reliably get distribution and grow every single week, is probably what you would sequence first. And then you would layer things like analytics and monetization on top of that, so So hopefully, hopefully, we'll get it out there soon and we're taking a definite global lens on it, but But it's hard to say. It's not like a binary global fleet to figure out like the country by country rollout plan.

Anu
58:21
I think that's super helpful. Quick follow up just because Patti got back to us on the earlier question. We always want to close a loop. So the club's on profile changes, so the member of redesigns I think we're testing those on Android now. We'll decide when to prioritize on iOS after we get those results. And then Patti and Jess on our team both confirmed report room title from hallway should be live on both platforms already. Excellent. All right. Shall we get into? Do you want us to request for shows Paul?

Paul
58:51
Yeah, let's just do that because we're over. We are requests for shows. I'm really excited about book launches. We've had so many of those recently, right. We had all the rooms that Steph mentioned earlier. This week. We have a bunch of stuff there. So I love love love like book tours. Coming to clubhouse that's that's something I still really love the idea of an author coming on, and reading one chapter from the book every day and then hosting a discussion after that. I know that's a heavier lift, but I think that'd be amazing and the other thing that I've been thinking about is like a series of rooms that are tied together with replays right now that you have replays you can do you can string things together in interesting ways. And so I've just been thinking about what you could do there. And, you know, you imagined the end of the room, you tell people, here's what to do for the next one. I don't know exactly what that looks like. But it's a seed of an idea that I think is interesting.

Stephanie
59:54
I mean, I think that you literally the example of the book reading or having an author come in is in fact a series that's only capable of three plays because if you miss the first or second one you miss major chapters. So I think that's actually like a really good use case type to get there, Paul.

Anu
1:00:08
Oh. I also like the after party use case I feel like there's often like a more formal conversation and then you're like, Okay, we're gonna close this room, and then we're gonna open another room. That's more casual. And so I think it'd be cool if you already had planned that and you link that so it's like a room crawl.

Paul
1:00:27
Oh, I love it. We're like, Yeah, yeah, totally. That's like gifting a room. Give me your audience to someone else to write. Yep. Yeah, think about that, like club collaborations. People talk about that a lot. And you could do that you could just you can you can sort of hack together collaborations until we have the real support for that by including a link to the secondary club there. I know it doesn't do the same in terms of the distribution, but, but that's something you'll do but also gifting your audience where you can say at the end of the room, put a link to the next room and then that's like a very nice little exchange of social capital and recommendations. You know. We should yeah, we should have done

Anu
1:01:11
that. For all I want to see the matrix.

Paul
1:01:13
I know. That was so many matrices in my notes. Okay, all right. All right. What do we have coming up bunch of good rooms Best Start 10am PG right now, three minutes ago. Hey, who does a ton of important DNI work and co host or moderator training with our new is announcing MLK Day and a call for participants and that's out of the equity to liberation club. So that's right now, equity to liberation club. If you want to check that out. Let's see Oh, Cory Feldman that I heard him talking. Was it last night tonight?

Stephanie
1:01:53
It was yesterday he caught He's on a roll. He's really that was

Paul
1:01:55
so cool. That was so cool. So Corey Dublin for stamp ID and Goonies and the Lost Boys have grabbed lids and licensed to drive. I remember my dad accidentally took us to that when I was growing up because he didn't realize that it was PG 13 is going to be hosting Movie Talk with Swan set today at 1:30pm Pacific. So join and share your favorite nostalgic Movie Moments. That is can we have a link to that on what's the best way for people to

Anu
1:02:22
incoming Paul in the UK

Paul
1:02:27
for tomorrow night, Hollis Cherylin on the science fiction talk club is gonna they're gonna host Neil Stevenson, who's gonna be talking about his new novel Termination Shock and the metaverse and that's going to be at 6pm pacific time tomorrow. And I touched on this before again, but Tuesday we're gonna see Tiffany Haddish Reese Witherspoon's I sell data discussing empowering and elevating female creators in the beside club. So lots of great rooms and I think there's some others too that aren't in the announcement list but like that we've been hearing about that are gonna be pretty incredible this week. So thank you so much, everyone. I'm sorry. We went five minutes over. And he's got the link at the top of the room if you want to check out Movie Talk with Corey Feldman. And I don't know if we can get the science fiction book. Club.

1:03:14
We need to care.

Paul
