This is a special team elf team Home Alone or Team Love Actually edition of town hall. I show my kids elf for the first time last night, and they really liked it. So it's such a great movie. It's pretty. It's pretty good.

So, for whatever that's worth, I
Paul

only like home loan for that's my favorite. All right. Robert, welcome everybody to the clubhouse Hall, where we talk about what we're building and what's happening in the clubhouse community and take questions from people about what's on your mind. And also, I guess, talk about what's coming up in the next product release. My name is Paul and when it comes out as a clubhouse, I'm joined as always by my co founder Ron via cine audio, and we do this every Sunday 9am Pacific time. If you have a question to a question to submit, you can submit it anytime a clubhouse calm. Just scroll to the bottom there's a link to submit a question for town hall. And we aggregate them like every Saturday and we try and like figure out what are the most commonly asked questions and we try to get to all those. And then if we have time at the end, we can take more through the back channel. If you have a question right now if you think of one during Town Hall, either go to club comm and submit it that way. Or that'll make sure we get to it next week, or or hit us up in the back channel if we end up having time after this. So we'd like to start every town hall with the highlights from the week. So we bring up let's bring up our teammate Steph Steph Simon, and Anu Ahmad you to roll again Never gonna mind
Stephanie

Her movie Her shows are so good. The movie, the discussions they do on movies. It's really good. Well She's a pro, and I don't think she would actually do love actually because her movies are much better than that. But it is a good movie.
Stephanie
2:13
It's a great, great movie. Well, let's dig in everyone including my favorite chess grandmaster. Garry Kasparov was it back on clubhouse this week? Unfortunately, no replays but it was a fascinating conversation on the future of games and good news. He will be back He promised us He will be back mid next month so keep an eye out. Tim will follow that way you will be sure not to miss it when he comes back on but he and the host Mac sat for at least an hour and he he's just a really special human being to listen to and it was just fascinating conversation. So give him a vote. I want to also give a shout out to a room I heard a lot about from Gray. Thank you very much about q&a. With immigration attorneys about best practice immigrate to the US. As someone who has a quote unquote non resident alien partner. I can say it feels super impossible to understand all the nuances of it and I can you know just thanks so much to the community for hosting rooms like this to just help guide people thank you to Bula Thai Cynthia Abdullah and everyone else who hosted like I said, I love those rooms because sometimes you just need someone to talk live to. It's great. They're always lots of cool NFT auctions happening on clubhouse but this one in particular caught my eye and unreleased Whitney Houston song organized by Diana Sinclair of the one of club. I'm a big Whitney Houston fan. So check that out. They're gonna be doing any more posts but like I said, I'm fascinated to see the range of NFT drops that are happening here on clubhouse. Culture Club actually one of the clubs who hosts a lot of these NF T drops Culture Club was back on clubhouse this week, and they kicked off with the discussion on sustainable fashion. One of my favorite topics. Then Jeff, Gian and Ruba we're joined by the incredible fashion creatives Emily j goes and Zack Carragher, Emily, villain Webb and Edwin Thompson to talk about the Adidas pop up in New York where if you didn't hear about this super, super cool, all items were not personal in dollars, but rather rates of recycled clothing and shoes. So obviously part of a larger conversation to motivate consumers to properly dispose of clothing and other goods they no longer need. And yet on I'm sorry
Paul
4:31
to interrupt. I was gonna say I gotta meet then when I was in New York, like it was the coolest thing. It's in like a whole bunch of early class graders. It
Stephanie
4:41
was awesome. No, they're amazing. And I guess I'll just give not an essay plug for Adidas but this is a separate thing. Which is as we all head into the new year a lot of us clean out our houses get rid of things I think it's a really important note to properly dispose of any of your recite any of your goods you no longer need. So like I said, I am very near and dear to my heart this conversation. So just a quick plug for the planet. Buster share went live in this was actually super super cool. I am very jealous of this post your share went live and what just happened club live on site at Madison Square Garden this week as Stefan curry broke the NBA all time three point record, bringing the energy of play by play from the historic moment and also the special story on how he scored tickets. Yes, he was there. I was not I'm very jealous. It was pretty incredible. It's it feels crazy to me that he already broke this because he's not he's almost the same age as me a little bit younger. And I remember as he was coming up, watching him in the NCAA finals and I just like he's already just obliterated the record which is insane to me. I like
Paul
5:47
how you how you refer to him by the long form of his name, you're such reverence is that why you do it?
Stephanie
5:59
And actually, when I went in this room, actually with the room I'm about to give a shout out to this Spring Hill company where they Kelsey and Steph Steph Steph, and I was on stage for a second I was like I do not
Stephanie
6:14
but yes in other sports is this Spring Hill. company did a 2021 year in wrap up in sports and culture with some of the biggest stories from the year with BMX star. Nigel Sylvester who I've known for a very long time Ashley Nicole moss and Loki they have such great banter. I can't wait to see them come back to God and back again next year because they're the Springhill rooms are such my some of my favorite like is that just really great banter between them. But maybe my favorite topic because it's a covered was Connie's relentless attempts to win back Kim Kardashian on new do we think this is romantic or delusional? What do we think? Love it? I love them bantering this topic is way who was bantering? No. Well, you don't need to know who is bantering. All you need to know is what's your take on or tips or Connie's attempts to win back Kim, romantic or delusional.
Anu
7:07
I mean, I don't want to use a word delusional I think they're aspirational or well that's
Stephanie
7:12
good, hopeful or hopeful. So yes, yes.
Anu
7:18
Okay. Yes. I don't know if they're going to be successful is maybe what I'm implying. But I think positive Yes, I do. I do. Never take
Paul
7:28
things positive and good. No,
Stephanie
7:31
not positive. I love it. Alright, admittedly, we might be slightly biased on this question, but the room from audio torium on whether audio is better than video. Certainly worth a listen. I have a feeling I know that verdict. Verdict audio. We're gonna add video. I know in the brain you have been saying recently, you
Paul
7:55
know, we're never say never, never say never
Stephanie
8:01
positive and good. All right, another slightly meta but very excellent conversation was held in press club. Josh Constine. welcome Andrew Chen to talk about the psychology of startups. And also we had a little guest appearance from a poll here on stage.
Paul
8:15
I didn't actually know that I was gonna make a guest appearance.
Stephanie
8:18
Oh, I know. I had to say like, you know, I think for all of us who certainly went through this early stage of growth, and you know the different tactics that are both relevant for web quote unquote, web two companies versus web three. I thought the room which was time to Andrew's new book called The cold start problem, which I know a lot of us on the team are currently devouring this week. There's a lot of good stories about the journey. Obviously the clubhouse has been on but other startups he's just a if you've not read the book or gotten to listen to Andrew speak yet he's just got a wealth of knowledge for any of you entrepreneurs out there who are trying to build your companies and figure out how you're going to acquire customers etc. It's it's really really great press club is
Paul
8:57
great Josh always do such a great job of that
Stephanie
8:59
everyone kills it. I've actually gotten feel like I've gotten to know a different side of Josh since I followed it started falling out of Instagram because he just has a lot of real interesting he I love the amount of interest that he has. Let me put it that way. He's an incredibly curious human being. Obviously being a great father and mother but he's it's not just tech. Let me put it that way. So anyway, he's great. Yvette Vargas and the new Hollywood crew welcomed writer producer Kelly Edwards to provide educational insight on writing, producing and overall deals in the entertainment industry. So for any of you guys in the entertainment industry are aspiring to be the entertainment industry. Give the club a follow because she's this is not new. She hosts these often.
Paul
9:41
And so to check it out next time. I love all the entertainment industry conversations that happen I learned so much about the behind the scenes stuff that I just never knew about. No, I
Stephanie
9:50
know and like I said, I think there's nothing like being able to just sit and listen and ask questions. I've been maybe reading an article I mean, if you tried to type in how do I make it in the entertainment industry very difficult. The clubhouse comedy club we
Anu
10:03
need to we need to get a how to become a cast member on SNL conversation.
Paul
10:09
I had a great conversation with Matthew friend about it. And I tend I think he will be honest and at some point,
Anu
10:16
he is a great impressionist. He is so good. Howard Stern is his number one but you know many many more and and Paul and many others also number two.
Stephanie
10:30
Well, I've been I feel like you guys are gonna get sick of me talking about the Beatles and The
Paul
10:41
Beatles Come on.
Stephanie
10:43
I like I said last time it doesn't matter if you don't like the Beatles. It's an amazing story. About the dynamics of people that either work closely together, you know, create together it's fascinating. And this week, they said they took on a different I actually had to do a selfish plug really quickly. I got to go watch the Beatles love show in Vegas because my brother in law is one of the acrobats in it and it was actually fantastic if you've not gotten to see that yet, but the Beatles are on full display. Again, I won't even give it another plug but the NPR team did an incredible job with it. Check it out or go not go check it out. Go watch it. It's eight hours of great hate
Paul
11:19
eight hours of such a commitment. I remember I remember. I remember talking to someone about Breaking Bad. And I like I watched a couple episodes. I'm like I don't know it seems a little bit slow and depressing. And it was supposed to be good. They're like, No, no, it's like that for the first three seasons. But then it gets so good. You'd have to come in I'm like I'm not gonna watch three. Somebody told
Anu
11:39
me the same thing but they said four seasons.
Paul
11:43
I am I have to watch wild strawberries because Justin is really hosting a conversation about that. And I'm like every time he goes through like oh man, I wish I had watched this before so I added it to my queue. I'm gonna try and watch why.
Anu
11:54
Requesting requests for highlights. We got a compliment stuff like the Beatles with BTS. Okay, okay. Yeah, I know somebody on our team would really appreciate.
Stephanie
12:05
Give me some content. Janet hosts a room and I will give you a highlight. How about that? Just kidding. Okay, sorry. Let's go literally got lesson googling. Just seeing Bateman. Wild Strawberries because she actually did you see her film. That's it. That's what we should be talking about. Before I turn it over to Paul though, I will leave you with some extremely cozy holiday content in the form of this replay from the movie club, where they did a table read of a Christmas
Paul
12:32
this was so good. I read them. We came across it when I was driving. And that was like why? Yeah, it was amazing.
Stephanie
12:39
So let's check out the replay. But also, I Ron hoisting, who is one of our creators from the CFP program and I adore him very much. We'll be doing a nightly we'll be doing nightly Christmas stories starting tonight through next week. I like to say it's his voice is classic and him doing readings I can only imagine come for the vibe stay for the sound effects. I'm gonna have Paul give a link at the end of the at the end of town hall but also just want to kind of plug it out there lots of Christmas spirit and holiday spirit in the air on
Paul
13:08
clubhouses we go hazing amazing and for the record shark just back to me and said he's with me on Breaking Bad so not the only one.
Stephanie
13:20
Well, I'm getting a lot of back channels Love Actually. Love Actually for the win Love Actually no
Paul

Anu

Paul
13:30
Bad is your favorite holiday movie then there you got all right. Amazing. Thank you so much stuff. A couple things before we get into product and then q&a. A couple thank yous. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. As always, we've said this before, but to the doctors and nurses and other subject matter experts who are holding rooms about the latest COVID news and recommendations. The latest surge is is scary and I know that the entire community is grateful for the time and energy that these professionals are giving to help everyone keep informed and hopefully save. So thank you to everyone who's been who's been hosting those rooms and providing guidance. There are a couple things on next release. I'll go into that in a bit more detail. We're doing a bunch of work around general improvements, but there's one feature I just wanted to mention that's coming in next week's update that I'm really, really excited about. I've had it on the internal build and it's awesome. And that is a saved queue for replays. So replays have been amazing. It's really changed the way I use the app. And it's it's helping creators build their audience. doubling their audience, tripling their audience for for people who are getting to discover their rooms and there are more ways coming for people to discover rooms, three plays, but But it's been awesome and the adoptions been amazing. One thing that's been really missing is a way to save a room for later. If you don't have time to listen to the full thing right now. And it is the CQ is something that just seems so obvious. It's been so obviously absent and it's gonna be great. So like, imagine you're scrolling through the hallway, you see a great replay but you're heading into meeting you don't have time to listen to it. Now you'll be able to tap a button and just save it to your queue for later. Another thing that you can be able to do which is really cool, is you can save live rooms for later if replays are enabled. You can tap the three dots from the hallway or from within the room. And you can say I can't do this now but like let me save it for later even if it hasn't ended yet and you'll be able to save it to your replay queue. The replays will be accessible right now initially from your profile. So at the top of your profile, there's gonna be a little bookmark icon that you can tap on to go into your replays anytime. If you save the room and you weren't able to attend it, like if you RSVP for it. I believe this means but Ron, correct me if I'm wrong. And you know, you tap the bell, you're like, oh, I want to join this one, but you weren't able to attend it. That'll go into your safety also. And they're gonna be rolling out Tuesday on both iOS and Android. So take a look at that. Let us know what you like what you don't like what we can improve. Also keep your eye on clubhouse page to tap that in the room at the top right now the little green house and join that club if you're not part of it, because we might be throwing another not so surprising surprise townhall midweek. To take your questions and talk about other stuff. Maybe make some other announcements along with it. So that's something that we're really excited about. And another thing that I wanted to mention is we've been doing a lot of end of year stuff at clubhouse planning for the next year. Making sure we finish strong and ship a bunch of features for you before the holidays. We've also been doing an internal feedback cycle. A little quick 360 feedback. Feedback is a gift we got to make sure we're helping each other get better as we build this product. And we call it soundcheck and we thought it would be fun because we always build in public. We're constantly rolling out features so much of what we build. So much of what we do is shaped by rooms like this by conversations that we have with you here in New User orientation every Wednesday and all the rooms in between. And so we thought it'd be good to roll out soundcheck to the community as well. So you can tell us what we should start doing what we should stop doing what we should continue doing. So So step Rodney tend to link to it right now on he did. And if you have thoughts about product features about creator tools, you want to send over some more requests for Rohana saying yeah, maybe I'll surprises one day. I don't know. Joke will never get all dough, fill out the Google Form tell us like even what we're doing within these rooms, what we what we're doing behind the scenes what we're doing when we talk with you and and, you know, anything that you can tell a Start Stop, continue, please hit fill out the Google Form that we're putting to the top of the channel. We'll be posting it to our blog to our social channels. We'll keep it open over the holidays. So if you get a chance, just drop in some thoughts. So we can do so we can do a really good job serving the community in 2022 and beyond. And if you have a funny suggestion, we might read that out very upcoming town halls will encourage funny suggestions as well as useful suggestions. Yeah.
Anu
18:22
And you could submit totally anonymously or include your name if you're okay with us giving you a shout out.
Paul
18:29
That was a good call. Thank you so much. Alright, let's do product updates. Then we'll go into q&a. So I already talked about some of the bigger things. Let me go back first, the last release. We push the release out of five days ago and 14. And there are a few things that we put in that one is improved mini cow on Android. So we're rolling this one out first on Android and then on iOS, but you know, the little mini cow that shows up at the top of your hallway that tells you if you have a room that you RSVP for today. Well, that is
Paul
19:01
but it's not great, because there are a lot of times a club that I'm a member of a person who I think is a really great creator is hosting a room and I don't know about it until after the fact and before replays. This was terrible because I'd hear about it in town hall and be like, How did I not know about that room and even now a lot of rooms don't have replays enabled, and I want to be there live so I can ask questions and participate. And so we want to do a better job of helping you know when there's an upcoming room from someone you follow, or a club that you're a member of see, you can add it to your calendar and make sure that you carve out the time for it if you want to do that. So we're changing the way the mini calendar works. So it's going to be more compact, but it's going to show you all of the upcoming rooms in the next day or so from people you follow from clubs that you're a member of regardless of whether you've RSVP for them. So if you tap through, it'll say like the next upcoming event and then it will tell you plus seven more today or plus one more today. And you can tap through and you can see all of them. So it's an easier way to keep up to date on what's happening in the near future. We've rolled that out on Android and tell us what you like, tell us what you don't like we'll keep an eye on it. And then assuming it's a good change for people we'll roll it out on iOS soon. If it's not then we'll make some tweaks to both of them then roll it out on iOS soon. So that went out this past week. We made a bunch of improvements to topic discovery. So the iOS Explore tab, we've got some more changes in the works there. It's just going to keep getting better and better because there's a lot more we could be doing there. But we made some improvements to the iOS Explore tab and also to the suggested topics view from view all like if you're looking at someone's user profile, you're seeing what topics they're into. And you tap view all we made a bunch of improvements there. To make it easier to discover new topics. We started experimenting with sending you activity feed items when your rooms are getting replays. Right now you can always go to the room and you can see how the total attendee count has increased over time. But just like you might get an activity feed item on on Instagram, if someone comments on your photo, we want to start making it easier for you to know when your content is getting engagement. So we started sending some notifications about this. They're very basic right now. You know, I think it tells you when you reach each new tier of of sort of attendee count on your replace, but we're gonna make more improvements to that in in December, January, February, but we started out with the basics this past week. We started showing users on topic pages. A lot of people said I have some niche interest. I'd love to know who else on clubhouses into that thing. And there wasn't a really easy way to do it before. Now there is. So if you tap on any of the topics that you see in clubhouse, whether it's one at the top of this room, one on your profile, anywhere, you'll be able to see not just clubs that are tagged with that topic and rooms and that are tagged with that topic, but people who are passionate about that topic so you can tap on them, follow them see if they admin any clubs, you can join their clubs just another step to help you discover like minded people and clubhouse and we're going to launch a lot more of those over the coming months. And just to note, if you hide a topic from your profile, you will also be hidden from those search results. So none of the privacy expectations change around that. We rolled that out to 100% of users this past week. And then we also added deferred deep linking which was another thing which was clearly missing from the experience. So the way it worked before is if you shared a link out to a room or to a replay. And people on the open Internet tapped on it. If they had clubhouse installed, it would take them straight to that room, which is great, but if they didn't have clubhouse installed, it would just take them to install clubhouse. And when they got to the end of onboarding, they would have to know to go back to the web page and tap on it again in order to get to your room which is a terrible experience. And we changed we added deep linking so that if they tap on a link and they don't have clubhouse installed or installed clubhouse and they'll get to the end of onboarding, they'll go straight to your room so it'll just help you grow your reach. If you're a creator. And if you're new to clubhouse, it'll help you go straight to the content that you had intended to get to. So that was when that's what went up this past week. We have an upcoming release that we're going to sneak in before the holidays. And there are a few things that are going into that the big one I'd say is the safe replay queue which will go out hopefully this Tuesday depending on when the update gets approved. We're also doing some changes to the room layout to make clipping and sharing a bit easier to digest and more prominent at the bottom of each room. And then we're also doing some follow up work on the Explore tab I mentioned we're making a bunch of improvements to that door making it easier to follow clubs and topics and other things from within explore. So those are the things that we know are scheduled to go out this week. Could be some more things to add to that. But but look for that on both platforms coming up in a few days and getting some backchannel about some of these features that that I mentioned.
Paul
24:04
Let's see. Let me let me see if there's anything that I would add here. We haven't enabled all everything related to deep linking yet. We ship the client support for it. Okay, we ship client support for it. So people can update the latest client, and then we will start turning that flag on to enable them over the coming weeks. Thank you, Patti. So got some clarification from the team right there. Anyway, that's it on the the release roadmap. Do you want to go into the q&a
Anu
24:33
on it? Yes, I was gonna quick quick back channel from Andrew, saying public soundcheck is clubhouse Festivus so give us feedback and if you'd like us to
Anu
24:52
but yes, I know we just took down that link to the forum where you can find it in our blog post as well which went live this morning in case you need to find it. Alright, let's get into questions. So as always, we'd like to start with questions about our most recently launched features. So we'll run through some of those and then get to all the usual great questions about in room experience discovery creator questions, all that great stuff. Okay, so to kick off, Paul, so we recently launched the Not Safe For Work feature flag. So had a couple of questions that came in about how that works. The first is what makes a room NSFW in accordance with the new toggle and who decides to apply that?
Paul
25:35
Yeah, so we rely on a bunch of signals to try and classify rumors NSFW things like the words that are usually a topic, certain emojis, other things like that. So we have a classifier that's trained on a bunch of different signals. And one thing I would call out is that it isn't a bad thing to be in NSFW room. It's not against the community guidelines or anything like that. It just means that people who don't want to see more conversations will be able to hide your room if they choose not to see them in a more scalable way. It's kind of like sensitive content flags on a lot of platforms that you see it just lets you choose in the settings whether you want to whether you want to see stuff or whether you don't and it otherwise does not impact the reach of your room or the placement in the hallway or anything else like that.
Anu
26:21
Alright, and then a follow up question or creator and rule moderators able to see the flag. Could we report the room creators account if we see these rooms and if they don't have this room tag? I think the second question is really about if it should be NSFW, but the tag is not applied. How can we let us know? Which I would distinguish from reporting the room for trust and safety violation?
Paul
26:43
Yeah, and also the first part of the question is like, if it got flagged as NSFW, but it's not can they turn it off? And so yes, creators and room mods are able to see the tag. If they think it should not be there. They can turn it off like it's it's totally under their control. You can report rooms if you see them, just like you always can. If they're policy violations, then then we'll investigate that if they're not, then there are not. The one thing that I would add is if a creator host NSFW rooms and repeatedly removes the toggle. And, you know, does does that and there's a pattern of doing that. Then, the trust and safety team can take action on that through warnings or suspensions or things like that. So if the root is NSFW, please mark it as NSFW it will only the only real impact your reaches people said I don't want CNS NSFW rooms won't see it otherwise will not affect distribution. So that's kind of the way it works.
Anu
27:46
Alright, topics version two, something else that we've released recently, so question on is it possible for people to submit more ideas for new topics?
Paul
28:00
Yes, absolutely. So topics are these things that you see at the top of the MVC townhall clubhouse fun? Oh, I like this one out of the fun tag here. That's nice. We're fun. So we have, we have a few 1000 topics, right? And they're cool because you can tag your content with them. You can tag your room with them. You can say on your profile that you're interested in talking about these things. You can say that your club tends to talk about these things. I if you can't do it for future events, yet you will be able to and anytime you see one of these topics, you can tap on it and discover other people that are into that topic, other clubs, other rooms or events. And what we want to do is continue to expand this vocabulary so that people can can find other people are interested in the most obscure niche topics in the world because that's like that's the foundation for a lot of powerful rooms and communities. And so if you have topics that you would like us to add, you can absolutely submit a request to add a new topic. Just tap on this form that is pinned to the top of the room right now. This will always be available in the replay of this room. Or where else can people find it on there? Is it in the is it in the Knowledge Center somewhere? Yes, support
Anu
29:19
team was amazing and link this into the recent features portion of the Knowledge Center under topics so you can find it there.
Paul
29:29
And to get to that you go to support that clubhouse.com That is right.
Anu
29:32
And you can also get there from your profile settings which is the gear
Paul
29:36
icon or just go to clubhouse calm and you can navigate to it. We have a lot of ways to get to a lot of ways to choose your own adventure to get to
Anu
29:49
Alright, I think that covers the question, please. Yeah, please send us more ideas. We love hearing them whether they are global, international or local in some way. So we will look through all of them. Okay, onto replays, still still considered a recent feature request because a lot of energy around it. For one, could we turn on replays for the segment we want to record and then turn it off for the remainder of the conversation. Now we've gotten variations of this question. But I think this is something people are excited about given how fluid the format's tend to be in clubhouse.
Paul
30:27
Sorry I was on you. You cannot currently do that. But I would love to have a way for people to do that in the future. So the reason that you cannot turn off replays for the segment, and then turn them back on for the remainder of the conversation is it's a little bit in the weeds but when we've always said on clubhouse is created creator should be in control creator first and if the creator wants to record the room, great, then she should do that. If not, then then it shouldn't be recorded. And so our policy has always been it's okay to record if you have the permission of all the speakers but not if you don't. And what people used to do before replays is they would they would sort of put together a way to record it using external tools. And they would make sure that they had the permission of everyone who came up on stage. And, and that's great, but it's a little clunky. So part of the value of replays is that we took that process and we built it into the product. So when you come up on stage, you're agreeing that you know, your content that you're creating by talking can be featured in that replay. And when replays are on the prompt to come up on stage where you're accepting is different than when they're off, I believe and so if replays are on, that's fine, but what if you turned replays off? And then someone came up on stage and then you decided to turn replays on we were thinking through this and you'd have to then get permission from all of the people who came up on stage before and you could not start the replay until you had their permission and what if you had it from five people but not the other person? That it gets pretty tricky with group stuff like that the alternative would be to ask you for that permission upfront even if replays for off just in case they came on but that could be misleading and confusing too. And so the way we built it right now is that replays are you decided the beginning if you want replays on you can change your mind at any point. And turn them off. But that's a destructive action. You can't re enable replace for that portion of the room right now. So you know Town Hall is for for getting into a little bit of the sausage making there so that that's kind of some of the thinking behind it. And that's why you can't do it now but I know it's a it's a feature that people would like. And so I'd love to find a way for us to I'd love to find a way for us to support that
Anu
33:06
in the future. So I would love it as well for many of the conversations that I'm involved in. I think there's one not just one format, there's three formats maybe and you want to save two of them but not necessarily three. So hopefully we can we can find something that works there. Okay, so to save replays which you already touched on a little bit earlier in product but we get this question a lot. Is there a way while listening to a room that has replays unable to favorite it and make it available in a queue? For myself later? Or even to curate replay lists to share with others privately or publicly?
Paul
33:43
Yeah, so the first part of this will be going live this week on both iOS and Android. So this can be while you're listening to a room or from the hallway without even entering the room, you can tap the three dots and save it for later if it's live, which I think is awesome. Or if you see saved, if you see replays in a carousel, there will be a save button where you can tap it or if you see them on someone's profile right now. I think you tap the three dots. We might add a button to that too. So anywhere you see a replay, you can save it to your queue for later that will be available. On your profile. There's a little new bookmark icon at the top of your profile where you can access your saved replay. So anytime your clubhouse, you scan the hallway you find something you want to jump into great if not you can just hit your backup you can be any go to your saved replay queue and listen to him that he missed. And this question about having a way for users to curate and share replay lists that are either private or public. A lot of people have asked about that. I think it's a very interesting idea. We do not have that on the near term roadmap for the next couple of weeks. But if if people want that like please let us know go to the soundcheck thing soundcheck form that we talked about or just ping us anytime, so much of what we build is based on user demand. So if that's an important feature for people, that's definitely something we could build, but it's not in the near term roadmap right now we wanted to start with a personal cue, so that it's easy for you to just grab the rooms for later and listen anytime you want.
Anu
35:15
Okay, one more quick one on replays, which I think is a little bit unique. Would it be possible to make a way for the creator of the room to create a recording just for their own use without making it available as a replay? So you know, using recording as a tool on clubhouse is that something we might consider?
Paul
35:33
So this is like I want to do a replay. I don't want anyone to be in the audience. While I'm recording it, but then I want I going to be available later on.
Anu
35:45
Yeah, I suppose. In theory, it's like if you were able to do a replay with a private room and then just not posted to your profile that would serve the purpose if you could still download it. But I know we don't have that for private rooms yet.
Paul
35:55
Yeah, that would serve a purpose in the future. So the way it works, we don't have that capability built in very easily right now. And the way you can hack around it if you want, which I think is person acknowledge is you can create a replay and then download it locally. And then delete the replay from clubhouse. It's your content, you can do whatever you want with it, but that would be the workaround to do it right now. But in the future, it would be cool to have easier ways to do that. And I imagine we'll have easier ways to do that in the future. But but but that's sort of the workaround that you would use right now.
Anu
36:39
Okay, and then one more quick one on recently released cumulative listener count about Android. So someone wrote in we still weren't able to see total room attendees being in the audience and the room composure after upgrading our app is that something intentional on Android, the number of CO attendees is still equal to the number of people here right now.
Paul
37:00
So that should be rolled out on both iOS and Android. And the the one thing I can think of is it could be that someone didn't have the latest version of the app. And that does take a little while to takes a little while to sort of propagate across the world. And so I actually confirmed this with the product team like you should be able to see it on new clients, but if you don't have the latest version of Android then then you would not see it yet. So if this if you submitted this question, you're on the latest version, you're sure and you're still not seeing it, then please report it because that would be a bug.
Anu
37:39
All right. We are let's see. We've got a lot more questions. And we've got so the rest of these are not new features. We're gonna zip through them. Okay, Paul. All right. All right. All right. Talking about in the beginning of time, same time for the end, post, post showroom experience.
Stephanie
38:05
I'll queue up I'll queue up some Oscar music for that one.
Paul
38:10
Stage hook, just like
Anu
38:12
we need like a broom feature. That's throwback, throwback reference. But how about an additional badge that people on stage could raise their hand and would allow a numbered speaking order to show up so that everyone knows who's going to talk in what order?
Pau
38:30
Oh, this is interesting. So um, so the way that we thought about this is like hand raising for people who are already on stage two, because yes, sure, technically they could unmute and talk, but that would be kind of rude. So I like Yeah, that should exist. Um, I'm trying to think through we've never seriously uh, we haven't had a big debate about this. It's just never something that's really risen to the top of the priority. But we are thinking a lot about in room tools now and what we can do to make all this stuff better. And I guess the the workaround right now is, people would would backchannel the mod and or they would just repeatedly unmute, and neither of those are really great. So I will, I will take that suggestion as input as we think through the product roadmap in the room stuff. I think it's, I think it's great. Yeah, it makes a ton of sense. And I can't think of any reason why we wouldn't want to do that.
Anu
39:34
We need to let people loudly unmute.
Paul
39:38
Well, the other challenge is we replaced the hand raise button with the mute unmute button when you come up on stage. Because if we still had it, and you could just raise your hand and it would go over and it would look nice, you know? Oh,
Anu
39:48
yeah, that's true. That is true. Okay. TBD, but we're generally aligned, which is a great suggestion when? Okay, spicy one, which we have been talking about more recently. Is there going to be a way for speakers or the audience to give live feedback inside a room?
Paul
40:03
Hmm, very spicy. Yeah. The visit? Yeah. So this goes to like the in room experience. I think that I think that that it's a question we get a lot is a request we had a lot. Here's what we always kind of said about it is we we think that there should be more ways to give feedback within a room. I think if you are a comedian in like hearing the laughter of the audience is really important. If you're performing, hearing the roar of the crowd, a standing ovation, like these are just amazing experiences that people have in real life. And we want to bring those feelings to clubhouse. We just want to do it in a way that is created first. And what I mean by that is if you're on stage and you're talking, we want to make sure that it's a really good experience for you. The lack of feedback in clubhouse right now it's kind of special because it it it lets you stay in the moment. And it lets you just kind of talk and you don't think about the fact that there are 1000 people in the room. Right? It's it's, the reality is you're like on a stage with 1000 people watching that's crazy that would that would make people very nervous. But when you're in a classroom, it's not as nerve wracking because it just feels like it's the four of us up here talking right? Now. Right? And there's something really powerful about that if suddenly I had to worry about people in the audience. You know, I mean, worst case like dunking on you and insane, having like an abuse factor. But even if questions are coming up and other people on stage are reading them and responding to them and you're not looking at them while you're talking, it can be really distracting. So we want to add stuff like that. I suspect we will in 2022 and we want to do it in a way that is really positive and additive to the Creator.
Anu
42:01
All the speakers. And then a quick quiz additional related question. Would there be a way to add reviews or to rate a club or room so that we can decide whether maybe listen to us or replay or join that clubs or not the live in room stuff, but the stuff that persists?
Pau
42:21
Very interesting. I could talk about this for a long time. So let's keep it short. So it is kind of like Okay, so this is there. There's all sorts of social product design stuff here to think about. Right? Like think about the services where you have a like button you generally don't have a dislike button because the the point of the feedback is to make the person posting it feel good and to build that social bond between you and it also serves a signal for the content but a lot of a lot of services like that are networks where you're only consuming recent content, you know, content that's been posted in the last day or so. In services where you have a corpus of content where you have like this big archive and we're the cost of consuming is higher. You tend to have ratings and and so I'm thinking about not just like podcasts, and like and like Netflix type stuff, but also like Amazon product reviews or like Yelp reviews, there's a high cost to consuming these things. So you want to give people the right information to make a decision to kind of inform that tap upfront. replays are kind of in the middle. So I think I won't talk about it more now because I could talk about for a long time. But there's there are a whole bunch of like social dynamics there. And then there are also other signals you can use to decide whether someone should enter a room because it's continuous play media, you know, whether people are being retained. You can personally spec holography, you can do all sorts of stuff there. So reasonable people could come to different conclusions on the best approach to take. But we should have ways to help you decide what replays to listen to that's kind of the North Star principle like, Absolutely, that's the job we need. To do. And the question is what's the best way to do it?
Anu
44:10
Alright, first of all questions. Will we have the ability to pin more than one link in a room? Yeah, we don't need to replace the links each time I did not submit this question.
Paul
44:20
Ah, ha ha ha. We should totally have that. And I love how people are doing it naturally, though, like I was in this room and he is cycling through all of these useful links. And the engagement that we get on candidates is crazy. So like, I think I suspect it is a good practice to cycle through them and we should make that easier. One interesting question is whether you allow the CEO to carousel pin links do you allow the mod to dictate what is being shown at each point or do you let people
Anu
44:52
scroll? Both will have to choose when to start Yeah, let's do some quick quick hits on discovery questions the the always important discovery questions. Are there going to be any plans to add the option to see or show the last few rooms I visited? Frequent question we get the reasoning for this one. I've been in a few great rooms and accidentally click a pain that takes me out of the room. And if I don't follow the club or someone in the room anymore, I no longer see the room in my feet.
Paul
45:26
So they totally should be. One thing that you can do right now is if you go to your hallway and tap on the Explorer icon in the upper left and there's a icon, the upper right of that screen, where you can view speakers you've recently listened to. And the thing is, there's not a great way to get to get to their rooms. So this is a problem we should solve. And we don't like I don't know what the near term Salford This is what the exact design is. But absolutely, we should solve this because that's silly that you don't have that.
Anu
46:00
Okay, is there a way to sort the hallway to see the largest rooms at a given time?
Paul
46:07
No, there's not a that would be interesting. Should there be? I mean, maybe right. So what I think there's a trade off between complexity and power, which is like an eternal thing that that that social platforms struggle with. A lot of times they'll add it and most people won't use it. You know, think about like algorithmic versus reverse timestamp. Like that's, that's kind of one that people often do. So I think that we I think we probably should have that. But but we don't right now and I you know, maybe we will in the future.
Anu
46:47
Yeah, I think I think sometimes people are asking for a different type of feel or to know what's happening, not necessarily that they want to see every largest room in Yeah,
Paul
46:56
that's a great call. Like, you know, there are other ways to solve it, too. There's trending notifications and like other ways to browse and navigate so
Anu
47:04
yeah, I think if we have more time to think about I'm sure we'll come to something that would satisfy what people are asking. Yeah, I
Paul
47:09
wonder if like the I wonder if the question behind the question is wanting to have just wanting to find better rooms more easily, and that's how they think they would do it. A lot of the like, the other thing is, we don't want to set the message to sort of suggest that bigger rooms are better because like the best rooms that people have had are usually the small rooms missing to help you get
Anu
47:40
I love social rooms personally. But yeah, that's my personal preference. Alright, quick one on club join. So I've tried to join a few clubs, excuse me to have application to join. Is there a place in clubhouse where my profile where I could see all the clubs I've applied to but have not yet been accepted to?
Paul
48:02
I don't think so. And what would be that, like? That's another one where it's like, yeah, it feels like you should have that. Do you know, is there a use case that is, is there a big use case or is it just more curiosity or like, wanting to rescind an application if you decide you're you're not into it anymore?
Anu
48:19
I don't think it's the last I could be wrong. Let me know if it's the last I think it's more than the former, which is, you know, excited to get a new club and just want to see if there's a reason that we'll be taking a long time. You know, I think one of the things
Paul
48:33
on that list alone wouldn't tell you that so we'd have to add more. Yeah. Yeah,
Anu
48:37
exactly. So I, I'm not sure you know, I think sometimes people are really excited to get into it. And maybe they don't know the mods. And I'm not suggesting to use necessarily like back channel message, everybody to ask about this. But I think there's a reasonable way to potentially do that. If you're just really interested in a particular club. Yeah. Yeah. So anyways, we have more thoughts on these and what could be really, really useful, maybe for many situations for many people, please, please let us know. Okay, quick one around accessibility and just ahead of that. Thank you. To everybody who keeps sending us accessibility feedback. It's immensely immensely helpful. In terms of accessibility. It'd be nice if the captions of voiceover users were displayed in a separate box, since they would since they would otherwise overlap with the contents of the room.
Paul
49:28
I want to make sure I fully understand this one. Are they talking about the built in native captions that we have on the platform right now? Or or is this a different question?
Anu
49:41
So I don't know if Romane has any additional thoughts on this but my thought based on the framing of this question is whether voiceover itself, could be captioned, but maybe I'm reading this incorrectly. Yours is the more normal interpretation, Paul.
Paul
50:00
Yeah, I guess what I would say is real hard if you had any. If if, if you understand this question better than I do then chime in. If not, maybe we take this as, maybe take an extra time to follow up on this to make sure that I'm understanding correctly because I'm not sure I fully understand. Understand what the question is asking. And then we can follow up with the next town hall.
Anu
50:21
Okay, let's do that. And if anybody on the team gets to do feel free to just message me before town halls over real quick I'm going to give you let's see five more questions if we can get to them. So let's go some creator questions. Is there any way that the holder or creator of an upcoming room can find out how many people have RSVP for the room in advance?
Paul
50:43
Yes, I think that we should totally do that. And I think that I think we need like one thing we're talking through is the RSVP system in general because it's, there's a lot more we could be doing it with it. In its current form. It's not as useful as it could be. And so I guess like in the interest of speed, I would just say we're working on thinking through how the RSVP thing interacts with the, you know, the bell, where you can say on people's profiles where you're saying always notify me about this person, should you be able to do it for every room within a club? How does it affect the mini cow? Should should these things be more public so other people can discover it? Like there's a lot wrapped into that that we're really excited to work through right now. And so I would just say stay tuned on that because it's an area that we're actively thinking through.
Anu
51:41
All right, feature tracking, is it possible to make room titles editable? And I know we've often talked about concerns around spam but any other thoughts around editable room
Paul
51:51
titles? Yeah. So quick recap there. The the main reason we haven't done that is because you could it's an abuse factor, like you could retitle a room that's already filled with people into something terrible and then screenshot it. And so we just would want to prevent that. And so one way to prevent that would be to show the Edit timestamp, man who edited it, but then we probably also need to make that visible in the hallway. And there's not much real estate there. So we just need to figure out the UI for it. So no, we haven't. We haven't prioritized that recently. But that's that's sort of why it's not just a no brainer. Let's do this thing right now.
Anu
52:34
If I'm a moderator, it'd be great to be able to rearrange the stage in terms of the order of the speakers, would that be something that might be available in the future? So literally, almost drag and drop? That
Paul
52:48
is really a poll like the the main guests so to speak up top? Do you think that's probably the main thing? I mean, yeah,
Anu
52:55
I think this is this is a request in lieu of giving a lot of people moderator badges, but then even then, you might want to reorder it, because that's based on time. Like within the moderator badges.
53:06
That's right.
Paul
53:09
Right, yeah, that's really cool. We haven't prioritized that but maybe there are simpler things we can do around like you know, put the hosts up top or something like that. I don't know. We we need to think through that one. That's, that's not a request. We've had a ton but I've had that experience before where I've wanted to rearrange it like I've been at the top like I've been number two spot in the room, but I'm not the main speaker and I really should be at the bottom so I get it. It's not something that we're launching right now, but, but I understand the need for it, and hopefully we can have that sometime in the future. Yeah, I like this guy. That's like the least satisfying answer to give for a question, but like, you know,
Anu
53:53
I like these questions because I feel like it indicates how visual I always say like the experience sometimes. Yeah, not just audio bass. So Oh, keep sending us more of these questions because I think it really highlights that. Okay, and then, Paul, you have heard me ask this question many times, but I want to see if you have any workaround for this, which is, is there going to be a way for us to host rooms with two clubs simultaneously, so that both groups would get notified.
Paul
54:22
Yeah, I really, really want that. I know that that's a huge demand from people. We've talked about it we talked about this past week, we talked about the hackathon. The main thing is given the way our services architected right now it's it's a pretty non trivial thing to do. And so the workaround people have been doing is using pin links, but I know that's not a workaround because it doesn't notify everyone and it's not a perfect solution. So it is definitely on our radar and it's something we want to build the question that we're that we're investigating over the next couple weeks is is there a way for us to do that? Quickly, because we don't want to spend a month doing it because it means we can't do a bunch of other stuff that's probably going to be more impactful for people.
Anu
55:04
So we'll look for the hack. And by the way, if anybody in the community figures out a way to kind of solve this without the feature, please tell us and we would love to let everybody know. Okay, and then this one I know that we want to do as well. Are there any plans for web listening?
Paul
55:23
Oh, I love these spicy questions. Yeah, I'm really excited about web listening. I think we should, like a big thing that we want to do is give people who are speaking, more reach and more feedback and all sorts of stuff like that. And if you're hosting a room, we want to make sure that people can really easily listen to it. So I'm excited about web listening. There's nothing that you know, nothing that that we have right now for it, but hopefully soon. We can do that because I think it would be really useful to people and so philosophically totally aligned. And and we'll let you know if we have something like that but but yeah, a lot of people in the team are excited about that. I think it makes sense that we should have that.
Anu
56:18
Alright, we got through him. Pretty cool shall we? I mean, I don't know if we have a lot of requests for shirts, but I know we have a lot of upcoming holiday shows.
Paul
56:31
A little we're gonna do the sort of holiday town hall next week. This is like, this is Rohana me telling the team like we we can't we can't have everyone involved in town hall on the holidays because they should be enjoying their holidays. So we'll have we'll have the smaller group here and we'll have more of like a little fireside chat townhall type type session. And we'll figure out the exact format but in the meantime, request your shows really just I think holiday celebrations like the Christmas Carol. Like the the table read was amazing. And I would love to hear more actual Christmas carols but really just like, like the ones that separate talking about tyrants doing and I would just say more holiday shows.
Anu
57:22
All right, let's talk about what's coming up then. I know there's a bunch of fun stuff today.
Paul
57:26
All right, lots of great conversations about start politics and media one on one is going to be hosting a conversation on GA politics. From Stacey Abrams Herschel Walker like that's gonna be a really good one that's starting right after this. And then do you have a pin link for that on you?
Stephanie
57:43
bet she's working on it
Anu
57:44
working on one of our pin links rerouted to our my page which is interesting.
Paul
57:51
I know I was confused by that. Hey, everyone, check out this cool.
Anu
57:57
I'm not sure why that happened. We'll figure that out and post as soon as I start saying,
Paul
58:03
okay, but go to oh, wait and search politics and media 101 In the meantime, and join that club if you're not already. Yeah. join that club. It's a wonderful, amazing club. If you are in the holiday spirit. Oh, I didn't even know this an encore performance of the coffee right. Thanks to the movie club. Amazing.
Anu
58:25
Nuts. I was like yes, let's go to the upcoming
Stephanie
58:28
me. It was a sneak preview that you and your dad cut by the way.
Paul
58:30
Oh, that's awesome. Yeah. Did my did my dad end up joining?
Stephanie
58:34
He did. No he does. Awesome.
Paul
58:36
Okay. And at 1030 at 7:30am Pacific or pm Pacific, the live piano Avengers right now. Christmas music Yeah. Oh, amazing. 30 minutes from now. That's so great. All right. So that's live piano Avengers in a half hour playing Christmas music. That's fantastic. And then I'm starting tonight. You mentioned Tyron Royston from our Creator first program every night until December 25. is going to be Is it Christmas music Christmas story.
Stephanie
59:05
No Christmas stories.
Pau
59:07
That's so awesome. That is awesome. Okay, and then on Wednesday this week, some of our creators in Italy are going to be hosting a room leading up to an incredibly popular music festival. That festival does San Remo and the room is going to feature a pop Dan is it Elise? Who will be performing a song it will be interviewed by Andrea lun Frankie and that's awesome. I these are great. I'm gonna pin all the or save these and then on Friday. Oh, small steps and giant leaps. I love that club. Posting a room to countdown to the launch of NASA's Webb telescope. Oh, that is so cool. We're gonna have the chance to listen together live learn from the experts who are close to the project, including several NASA scientists about what we might discover once it's up and running. Oh, that's so cool. I'm really excited for this. I have to like go to all these links and hit the bell. We should be up we shouldn't oh, you should have the ability to build a room or to build an event from the pin link. Without tapping on that'd be great. All right. So lots of amazing things happening. And I think that's it for today. Thank you so much for spending a bit of your Sunday with us. We We deeply appreciate it. It's been such an incredible year and we're just so grateful we get to do these rooms every Sunday. We'll be back next week. We'll be doing New Year's orientation. Oh, we rescheduled new user orientation this week. Right on it. Yes, for Tuesday, right? Yeah, we're doing it Tuesday instead of Wednesday. Probably won't affect most people here. It'll affect all the new people though. And then we back at the regular time the Wednesday after that. So if you are traveling, safe travels. Hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season. And we will see you in in all the ribs to come. Thank you so much everyone have a great rest of your day or rest of your evening wherever you are in the world. And thanks for joining us today. Thanks everyone.
