The playlist
I just wanna recommend one of the Netflix shows I've watched recently. It is called Playlist, a documentary about one of the most significant music streaming services, Spotify. The company was established in 2006 by Daniel Ek, the Swedish coder. Before the company was founded, one free music download site, The Pirate Bay, was the first fire in the music industry. They allowed users to download files, including music, illegally and, accordingly, fought against music label companies even in court. Meantime, Ek started a music streaming company that service fetches music from the internet and makes profits distributed to artists and labels. However, the story was more complex. Even though Spotify suggested a white knight for the music industry, labels and artists greatly opposed it because of its unprecedented business model. In the series, there are lots of conflicts among stakeholders, not only between law conflicts but also between engineers who are eager to make a masterpiece and lawyers who need to downsize the app to compromise to launch the app.
You can comprehend the story of the big music streaming giant. It is highly recommended.
