Kyoto Diary #4 'Genko-An' Temple
Hi,there. It's Teacher Asuka. This is my 4th Kyoto Travel Diary. The trip was in June, 2017. Today, I will show you another beautiful scenery of Kyoto.
At first, I went to `Kitao-ji' Subway Station and then transferred to the Kyoto City Bus to get to `Genko-An Temple'.Have you ever been to this temple?
Be careful, this temple has closed since June 1,2019 because of under construction. However, you can visit this temple from April 1, 2022.

The 'Genko-An Temple' is located in the Northern part of Kyoto City and related to Soto school of Zen Buddhism.
The Photo of inside the 'Genko-An Temple' below.
This photo is famous for the advertisement of Japan Railway Tokai, ’Yes, Going to Kyoto Campaign’.
The left Round-shaped Window is called 'Satori-no-Mado' and the other Square-shaped Window is called 'Mayoi-no-Mado'. ’Satori' means ’Spiritual Awakening', 'Coming to his/her senses' or 'Great truth about Life'. ' Mayoi' means ’Perplexity' or 'Undeceive'.
'Mayoi-no-Mado' itself expresses 'Human's Life' or 'the World of Human'. 'Satori-no-Mado' itself expresses ’Zen Teachings' or 'the Universe'.
Seeing the both window from behind for a while, I felt comfortable and relaxed completely.
I went there in early June so I could see many green-leaves with relaxed feelings. In Fall(Autumn), you can enjoy seeing beautiful colored-leaves around there. However, the temple area would be crowded with many people so I'll recommend you to visit there on weekdays if you take some free time.
All right, then. That's all for today. Thank you for reading this time as always.
See you next time 😊
Have a great day!
Teacher Asuka🎀
