The story of a man who speaks ill of the Buddha.
If you are given a gift and do not accept it, who has it?
The other day I read the following story: a man who believed in another religion came to see the Buddha and spoke ill of him in front of many people.
However, the Buddha listened to him in silence.
When he had finished, the Buddha asked him, “Do you invite your family, relatives and friends to your house and have a party? “
"Yes," he replied.
If your relatives don't eat the food you give them, what will you do? -- said the Buddha.
The man said, 'If they don't accept it, the food just remains'.
If you are given a bad word and I do not accept it, who has it? said the Buddha.
The man said, 'If you don't accept it, I've just given it away'.
'That doesn't mean you're giving it to me,' said the Buddha.
'Well, what things do you accept and what things don't you accept, ' said the man.
"Accepting is, if others speak ill of you, you speak ill of them in return, and others are angry with you and you are angry with others in return, while people who don't care about anything don't accept what you say,' replied the Buddha.
So, you're not angry about how many bad words you accept? asked the man.
The Buddha told him the saying, "People who have wisdom have no anger. Only unwise people speak ill of others who speak ill of others in return.
The man cried and asked the Buddha to forgive him for his bad manners.
I was moved by this story. We should think about when you are given a bad word, and you never give it back.
