Typing Practice

I have been practicing typing continuously since last year. Using well-known typing practice tools like "e-typing" and "Sushi-da," I would practice for about two hours on long days. Through these exercises, I have identified three key points that are crucial for improving typing skills:

1. Finger Position

Most standard laptop keyboards have bumps on the "F" and "J" keys. These are called home keys, with the left index finger resting on the "F" key and the right index finger on the "J" key. Proper typing technique involves placing your fingers on these home keys and maintaining this position while typing. Initially, I didn’t pay much attention to finger positioning, which resulted in stagnant scores in typing games. By consistently focusing on finger positioning, I noticed improvements over a few months.

2. Focus on Accuracy

One of the most important points when playing the aforementioned typing games is to focus on accuracy rather than speed. It’s tempting to try and achieve a high score by typing as quickly as possible, but this often leads to more mistakes and wasted time. In my early attempts, I frequently made careless errors in my rush to type faster, but I realized that the time spent correcting these mistakes ultimately slowed me down. Prioritizing accuracy over speed has proven to be more effective in the long run.

3. Consistent Daily Practice

This is the most crucial point: practicing every day, even if it’s just for 10 minutes. I have been practicing daily for about six months now, and although I still make many mistakes, I can clearly see significant improvement compared to when I first started. The first few months were tough as my scores didn’t improve much, but I’m glad I persevered.

In conclusion, typing skills are extremely important in modern society. With many tasks being performed on digital platforms, having strong typing skills greatly enhances work efficiency. Furthermore, with the increasing prevalence of generative AI, the need for text input has grown even more. High typing proficiency allows for the full utilization of AI capabilities, leading to more effective outputs. Therefore, I intend to continue practicing consistently to further improve my typing skills.
