かつらお企画室 2022 アーカイブ：糸を使った尾っぽ作り
葛尾村の名前と馬の名産地であったことに由来し、「尾っぽ」を作るワークショップを行いました。ワークショップでは、葛尾村にある金泉ニット株式会社からの残糸と京都の糸屋の様々な種類の糸を使用。
制作物は2種類。1つ目は、土台となる糸に他の糸を巻きつけることでふさふさとした尾っぽになるもの。キーホルダーやネックレスになるように仕立て完成しました。
2つ目は、機織りの中で最も原始的な織である腰ばたでタテ糸とヨコ糸によって織るタイプ。時間をかけて織っていくことで、長細く丈夫な尾っぽになり、ベルトやかばんの持ち手として糸が生まれ変わっていきました。
手を動かすことの楽しさと、糸が自分の日常を彩るものの形になっていくことの喜びを味わえるワークショップとなりました。

Making Tails with Yarn
One of the characters of Katsurao means tail and it was once a region famous for horse breeding. This is where the idea for a workshop making tails came from. We used a variety of yarns including leftovers from the Kinsen Knit Co. factory in Katsurao and others from a yarn company in Kyoto.
Participants made two kinds of tail. For the first, they chose yarn to be the base then wrapped other threads around it to make a bushy tail that when completed could be used as a keyholder or necklace. For the second, they used a backstrap loom, the most ancient kind of loom where horizontal and vertical strands of yarn are woven together. By spending time on their weaving, the participants created tails that were long, thin, and strong, and the yarn was given new life as belts and bag straps. In this workshop, the participants experienced the joy of working with their hands and seeing the yarn transform into something to bring colour to their daily lives.
