かつらお企画室 2022 アーカイブ：葛尾村の稲から縄もじりをして正月飾りを作ろう

かつて葛尾村では冬の仕事として人々が寄り合って藁をもじり、紐や色々な生活の道具を作っていたという話がありました。それがコミュニケーションの大切な場になっていたのではないかと思い、企画を立ち上げあました。現在葛尾村において、 藁もじりは行われていないため、藁もじりができる村民を探し、講師をお願いしました。また、葛尾村内で育った稲を素材としました。ワークショップ当日は、初めて藁もじりをする参加者が多く、はじめは苦戦していましたが、手を動かし続けることで薬もじりができるようになりました。また、一緒に活動することで、村内外の人が自然と会話をする光景が生まれました。また、いろいろなしめ縄の形があることがわかり、記録としては残されていない日常の中に大切な文化があることが分かりました。

Let's Make Wara Mojiri New Years' Decorations from Katsurao Rice Plants

In the past, the people of Katsurao would come together and twist straw as their winter occupation. They say they made rope and all kinds of other household items. This must have been an important place for communication, and that is what this workshop is based on. In present day Katsurao, nawa mojiri (straw twisting) is no longer practiced, so we sought out a villager who knew how and asked them to lead the workshop. We decided that we would use rice grown in Katsurao. On the day of the workshop, most of the participants, who had never done wara mojiri before, struggled at first, but they kept working at it and eventually were able to do it. Conversations naturally sprang up between people from the village and outside it as they worked together. We learnt that shimenawa ropes come in all different shapes and that there are important parts of culture that have gone unrecorded.
