Hi. My name is Alex and I live in a small village situated in the western part of Austria, in a large valley at the foot of the mountains.

こんにちは、私の名前はアレックスです。私はオーストリア西部の、山の麓の大きな谷間にある小さな村に住んでいます。

People here are very friendly and we all know each other.

ここの人たちはとてもフレンドリーで、みんな顔見知りです。

It's a very quiet place, the air is clean and fresh and the landscapes are breathtaking. 

とても静かな場所で、空気が澄んでいて新鮮、景色は息をのむような美しさです。

What I like most about my village is that you can enjoy several sports activities here, such as hiking and mountain biking. I go hiking very with my friends.

私がこの村で一番気に入っていることは、ハイキングやマウンテンバイクなど、いくつかのスポーツアクティビティが楽しめることです。私は友達とよくハイキングに行きます。

You can also try rock climbing here. I don't like this sport, though. I think it's too dangerous.

ここではロッククライミングにも挑戦できます。ですが、私はこのスポーツは好きではありません。あまりにも危険だと思います。

In winter, many tourists come here for skiing and snowboarding. Skiing is one of my favorite sports, too.

冬には、スキーやスノーボードを目当てに多くの観光客が訪れます。スキーは私も大好きなスポーツの一つです。

There is a small ski resort above the village. The tourists come and visit our village, too.

村の上には小さなスキー場があります。観光客の方も村に遊びに来てくれています。

There are two shops in my village, a bakery and a grocery store. There's also a school and a post office.

私の村にはパン屋と食料品店の2つの店があります。学校と郵便局もあります。

There is a small clinic not far away from my house. 

家からそう遠くないところに小さな診療所があります。

There's also a bus stop...

バス停もありますし・・・

...and a railway station.

It's a beautiful village, and I loved growing up in the countryside, but...sometimes it's a little boring.

I would like to be able to move to a big city one day, because there are opportunities that you can't find here.

ここにはない機会があるので、いつか大都市に引っ越せるようになりたいですね。

Hi. My name is Ben and I live in a big city: New York. I live in a 3-room apartment on the 8th floor, with my parents and my younger brother.

My city is very crowded and noisy.

私の街はとても混雑していて騒がしいです。

My school is not very close to where I live, so I have to take the subway.

私の学校は、住んでいるところからあまり近くないので、地下鉄で行かなければなりません。

You can reach so easily everywhere with the subway.

地下鉄があればどこにでも簡単にたどり着くことができます。

There are many people of all cultures in my city. They speak different languages.

私の街には様々な文化を持つ人々がたくさんいます。彼らは様々な言語を話します。

The taxis are great to get you where you want to go, if you don't want to wait for the subway.

地下鉄を待ちたくない人には、行きたいところに連れて行ってくれるタクシーは最高です。

I almost never go to school by my car with my parents, because we always have to wait for hours in the traffic jam. That's one of the things I dislike about my city.

いつも渋滞で何時間も待たされるので、親と一緒に車で登校することはほとんどありません。それが自分の街の嫌いなところの一つです。

And there is much pollution in the city.

そして、街中には公害が多いです。

But, fortunately, we have many parks. Central Park is the most famous one. It is a landmark in New York City.

でも、幸いなことに、私たちにはたくさんの公園があります。その中でも特に有名なのがセントラルパークです。ニューヨークのランドマークです。

There is a zoo in the Central Park that you can visit.

セントラルパーク内には動物園がありますので、ぜひ行ってみてください。

I like New York, because there is so much great food, everywhere. So many places and cuisines to try.

ニューヨークが好きなのは、どこにでも美味しい食べ物がたくさんあるからです。たくさんの場所や料理を試すことができます。

There are many stores where you can buy anything you need.

必要なものは何でも買えるお店がたくさんあります。

There are movie theaters, where you can watch the latest movies...

最新の映画を見ることができる映画館があります・・・

swimming pools...sports centers,

スイミングプール・・・スポーツセンター、

museums, schools, colleges and universities.

美術館、学校、大学。

I don't like the skyscrapers. They are too many and too tall.

高層ビルは好きではありません。数が多すぎるし、高すぎます。

I hate the heavy traffic in the city, the pollution and the noise...

都会の交通量が多いのも、公害や騒音も嫌ですし・・・

...and I also hate crowds.

・・・人混みも嫌いです。

It's a wonderful city. There's a lot to do and to see, but I'd rather live in a smaller city, less crowded, less noisy.

素晴らしい街です。やることも見るべきこともたくさんありますが、むしろ人が少なくて騒がしくない小さな街に住みたいです。

I live downtown in a 4-room flat with my parents and my two siblings.

I really love my hometown, It's a great place to live. I've grown up here since I was a baby.

What I like most about the city is the rainbow of colors as one looks down the streets of Copenhagen.

I enjoy the lively streets full of people and so many shops, cafes street food stands.

I think its charm comes from the feeling of a "small city".

その魅力は「小さな街」という感覚からくるものだと思います。

People in Copenhagen love bikes. they bike to work, to school, to bring the kids to kindergarten, to shop for groceries.

コペンハーゲンの人々は自転車が大好きです。自転車で通勤、通学、子供を幼稚園に連れて行ったり、買い物をしたりしています。

I also bike to school every morning. It's such a healthy lifestyle.

私も毎朝自転車で学校に行きます。 とても健康的なライフスタイルです。

Copenhagen is a city by the sea, so I like taking a boat ride with my dad pretty often. I have so much fun.

コペンハーゲンは海沿いの街なので、パパとよく船に乗るのが好きです。とても楽しいです。

My city looks like a modern day fairy tale because there are many beautiful castles and gardens.

私の街は、美しいお城や庭園がたくさんあるので、現代のおとぎ話のように見えます。

My friends and I love to walk through the gardens and enjoy a picnic.

友達と庭園を散歩したり、ピクニックを楽しむのが大好きです。

I love my city very much, people are so friendly and optimistic here. I would not live in any other place. We are said to be the happiest people in the world.
