KAMIHANGA International Print Exhitbition

The word "KAMIHANGA" is japaneses. "KAMI means 'paper' and HANGA means 'printmaking'. Therefore, KAMIHANGA refers to printmaking using a plate created with paper.


KAMIHANGA exhibition was held at Gallery Kanon in 2023. Many works were exhibited in a variety of print methods,
including relief print, intaglio, stencil, and planographic techniques. The features of KAMIHANGA include a wide range of
techniques and materials, as well as the unique and varied approaches that can be taken. We are pleased to announce that
the exhibition will be renamed KAMIHANGA International Print Exhibition and will now be open to all artists.
We hope that many artists will participate in the exhibition and explore further opportunities with KAMIHANGA.

What is KAMIHANGA?


The word "KAMIHANGA" is japaneses. "KAMI means 'paper' and HANGA means 'printmaking'. Therefore, KAMIHANGA refers to printmaking using a plate created with paper. The type of paper, the processing method in a plate making*1, and the print method*2 are not limited as long as the plate is made of paper. KAMIHANGA can include those made with plates that have non-paper materials adhered or applied to their surfaces, as long as the base of the plate is paper. KAMIHANGA is characterized by its versatility, allowing artists to experiment with a wide variety of techniques andmaterials, resulting in unique and diverse works.

*1 Paper is characterized by its ease of processing, including pasting, cutting, engraving, peeling, painting, folding, and tearing.
*2 Relief print, intaglio, stencil, planographic, and a combination of these are possible.
