I can't think of anyone who wasn't brought to tears listening to this. Now today's generation gets why their music was so inspiring/enlightening/powerful/emotional for those of us who grew up with the Beatles when they were still together, releasing music together. I sobbed like a baby the first time I heard the audio of this. I cried even harder the first time I watched the music video. This is/was the magic of the Beatles. And how they meant so much to so many of us. This - for me - was a gift of bringing John & George back from the beyond and into the present. At 62, I never, ever thought I would hear a NEW Beatles song again. I grew up with the Beatles as the background music of my life. When I was a child, I would watch the Beatles animation cartoon, and my parents would play their music. Some of my earliest memories involve the music of the Beatles. I can tell you where I was when I first heard "A Hard Day's Night" or that I was in Mexico the first time I heard "Here There And Everywhere" Or that I was in Pacoima, California the first time I heard "Come Together' and "Something". I saw Paul McCartney in Concert in Lubbock; Texas and my emotions overwhelmed me. The fact that I was able to share that moment with my son was priceless. And when it comes to John's death, I remember vividly watching Monday Night Football when Howard Cossell announced the murder of John Lennon on December 8, 1980, and I immediately felt numb inside. I had just purchased his latest album "Double Fantasy" and I loved it. Through the years I sometimes have a visceral reaction when I hear John's last songs from the 80s and I am actually grateful that I have them as it remind me what impact John and the Beatles have had to the quality of my life and I feel the world was enriched immensely by their presence. So, for you to get emotional as I did when I heard this last poignant beautiful song, I understand. The video of the making of "Now and Then" is truly beautiful and it left me in tears. Lauren, I had a very similar reaction. I was born in 1963, so I have been a Beatles fan since I was a baby. I was a senior in high school when John died, and it was the most devastating thing, I miss John and George to this day. I have been so fortunate to see both Paul and Ringo live, and I am so grateful for this new gift they have given us. What a beautiful way to celebrate the Beatles' legacy and honor the departed members. It is a beautiful song, and "haunting" is a great word to describe it. "Haunting" is the perfect word!!! I said the same thing. I've been a Beatles fanatic since I was 7... I'm 50 now. I know EVERY SONG inside out and backward! This song is 100% a Beatles song!

Listening to this song has been a form of music therapy for me. I don’t normally get emotional listening to music either but this has been an exception. When there is such trouble in the world today, the Beatles remind us they are still here to bring us joy and touch our souls. I think the song is truly beautiful, better than the Free as a Bird and Real Love which puts it amongst the greatness of their 60s output. At the same time, it also gives us a glimpse into what the Beatles would sound like if John and George had never passed on so soon. Bravo to all those involved. この曲を聴くことは、私にとって一種の音楽療法だ。 普段は音楽を聴いて感情的になることはないんだけど、この曲は例外だった。今の世の中にあれこれと問題があるとき、ビートルズは私たちに喜びをもたらし、魂に触れるためにまだここにいることを思い出させてくれる。この曲は本当に美しく、フリー・アズ・ア・バードやリアル・ラヴよりも優れていて、60年代に発表された曲の中でも最高傑作の部類に入ると思う。 同時に、もしジョンとジョージがこんなに早くこの世を去らなかったら、ビートルズはどのようなサウンドになっていたかを垣間見ることもできる。 関係者全員にブラボー。

You're right it's haunting and melancholy and beautiful all at the same time. I also got choked up when I watched the short film and everything got silent and you heard John's voice after it was isolated. I think the emotional response was because it was a mixture of just hearing his familiar legendary voice come back to life so clean and clear from that old cassette tape. As if he had come back to life to do one last beautiful record with his old mates for all of us to hear and enjoy. And the way they setup the visual there in the empty recording studio overlooking the console while they played it added to the effect. Whoever did that video (Peter Jackson?) knew how to edit everything to push all the right emotional buttons for the viewer. But it was worth it. And the song does have that magical Beatles quality. That chord change at the beginning of the chorus that goes from G to B minor coupled with the melody John sings just gets me every time! It's so John Lennon! we scrutinized their new GEAR
I am a great fanboy of John both in and out of the Beatles
as well as George
his music and actions became my favored one
Macca is great but the commercial band leader
Ringo was just in time forever
We all shed a tear
at 72 years young I have been influenced by the UK bands
the Stones' new album is also very good in a similar vein collage of old vid clips & cuts of rifts
seeing Charlie also is an emotional event
Young Gyles Martin & Jeff Lynne are part of this resurection :-))

Huge Beatles fan and cried uncontrollably when John was assassinated. I was only 5 when they came to the U.S. and was enveloped in Beatle-mania. My daughters, one born in ‘83 like you, and my second in ‘86 also love them. My 2nd gave me Abby Road vinyl for my 65th birthday because I had lost mine. I never saw them perform live together, but have seen Paul twice. Jeff Lynne (Electric Alight Orchestra) was behind “Free as a Bird”, bringing John’s vocals posthumously into that song and you can hear his influence in Now and Then, in which he shares production credit. It's such a lovely song, knowing that my two favorite Beatles are gone but this song brings back so many memories of my teen years, I'm 70 and will always be a Beatles fan. I think John had Paul in mind when he wrote this song. Despite everything to do with the break up with the Beatles, John and Paul were real soul mates. 実に素敵な曲だ。大好きだった2人のビートルズが亡くなってしまったけど、この曲を聴くと10代の頃の思い出がたくさん蘇ってくる。ジョンがこの曲を書いたとき、ポールのことを思い浮かべていたと思う。ビートルズ解散に関係なく、ジョンとポールは本当に魂で結ばれ合った仲間同士だった。

The Beatles mean so much to me. My wife and I were both born in 75 with completely different upbringings (been with a beautiful wife for 27 years). Her family was Peter Paul and Mary, Chicago etc and my parents were the Beatles, Hendrix, Joplin etc. John Lennon is one of those people that is important to me and means so much to me. Losing that beautiful mind he had at such a young age is a waste and his voice also makes me emotional (don't look at me when I'm listening to "Mother"😢😂). Love the new Beatles song and the technology here is amazing. ビートルズは僕にとってとても大切な存在だ。僕と妻は75年生まれで、育った環境は全く違う。彼女の家族はピーター・ポール＆メアリー、シカゴなどで、僕の両親はビートルズ、ヘンドリックス、ジョプリンなどだった。ジョン・レノンは僕にとって重要な人物の一人であり、とても大切な存在だ。彼が若くして持っていたあの美しい心を失うのはもったいないし、彼の歌声も僕を感動させる（「Mother」を聴いているときは僕を見ないでね😢😂）。ビートルズの新曲も大好きだし、ここの技術も素晴らしい。

It was a tough listen last Friday. My son asked if I had heard it and I hadn't so put it on. I did see on the news in the UK that people were at the Cavern for the first listen. As soon as it started up I felt that lump in my throat. I just had to go and get the chords down and play the intro of it. So sad and it's just such a waste - what could have been - I think it's also because you know the end is approaching and they are getting that bit older. I feel that with Free As a Bird though not as haunting as this is.
Watching the video was great with John messing about which is how I always think he probably was - thinking back to watching Get Back. An Am and an Em (at the start) and John's voice and that's all it takes. Master songwriters.
先週の金曜日は大変だった。 息子に聴いたかと聞かれたけど、聴いてなかったからかけたんだ。 英国のニュースでは、キャヴァーンにいた人たちが初聴きに来ていたのを見たよ。 イントロが流れた瞬間、のどがつかえるのを感じた。 終わりが近づいていること、そして彼らが少し年をとっていることを知ったからだと思う。 Free As a Birdでもそう感じたけど、これほど心を揺さぶられる曲ではなかった。
ビデオを見ると、例によってGet Backを観たときもそうだったけど、ジョンがふざけているのがとても良かった。 AmとEm（冒頭）、そしてジョンの声、これだけでいい。 ソングライターの巨匠だ。
