Vol.33 Trip suggestion to Nagoya!
Hi! Our family went on a trip to Nagoya. Nagoya is only 2.5hours drive or 1.5 hours by bullet train from Kansai. It is such a nice excursion. Today, I want to share our travel notes:)
1. What to do
We stayed in Nagoya for 2nights. One day for Legoland and one day for SC Maglev/railway museum.
LEGOLAND
Our main purpose of this trip was "Legoland"! Have you heard of it? It's a Lego theme park opened by Lego, known for its Lego blocks.
There are so many objects made with tons of lego blocks which are really amazing!!
My son is 105cm and there are many riders that allow him to get on. It's not scary but exciting enough. My son was super happy and tried most of the riders such as airplane, little go-cart, little roller coaster, fire truck, shooting rider, water splashing rider, boat and more...!!
My recommendation is submarine. It's a collaboration of aquarium and lego blocks. You can see a masterpiece of the blocks and fishes under the water!
Also, there are inside/outside playgrounds, water splash area and shops for souvenir. There were so many things to do and see and we spent whole day! We definitely want to come back.
SCMaglev and railway museum
We also went to SC Maglev and railway museum. It's actually located next to Legoland.
It's not a big museum but you can see a lot of bullet trains and vintage trains which were actually used in the past. Some exhibits have been cancelled due to COVID-19, but still there are a lot of things to do!
My son loved to issue his original shinkansen ticket and passed through the fake ticket gate many times.
The most popular thing at this museum is an experience of riding on sc maglev! It can run as fast as 500 km / h !!! You can feel the fast speed in a fake cargo of sc maglev.
Also, you can try driving a train! (At additional cost ¥100 and you will need to get in line.)
It's a good place to learn about trains and we really enjoyed!

2. What to eat
Lastly, I will introduce two famous foods in Nagoya.
One is miso nikomi udon (miso stewed udon ). Nagoya is famous for miso. Their miso is very red and they use red miso with any foods!
Yamamotoya honten is a popular restaurant for miso nikomi udon.
(↑ Japanese only)
Another one is Hitsumabushi (eel)! Hitsumabushi has some steps to enjoy unagi. First, you eat as it is. Second, serve in a bowl and put some spice. Third, pour hot dashi and eat it with the (very tasty) soup!
Atsuta houraiken is very authentic and popular hitsumabushi(eel) restaurant. Be careful it's always very very busy (They don't accept an advanced reservation)! We took it to hotel.
How about going to Nagoya for your next trip? :)
