My 1st Dose of COVID-19 Vaccine (Team Moderna)

Yesterday, I was scheduled for my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The emotion I had was a mix between anxiety and some excitement. Prior to the vaccination process, I believe many are worried about its side effects with so much information within reach. Perhaps walking into the vaccination center with a positive mindset is helpful while venturing into the little unknown. 

Only 2 types of vaccine have been approved here which are from Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech. In my case, the nearest vaccination center from my home which is a walking distance away, provides only Moderna vaccine. The option to choose Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is also available at another vaccination center with some traveling required, but I'm too lazy for that considering how hot the weather was over here.

The process of registering upon arrival to the injection itself was very smooth with little waiting time. So, I took my first dose at 15:00 hrs which was quick and did not realise it was over. After that, I was ushered to a waiting area with other individuals who have completed their inoculations. An observation time of 30 minutes is required in case there are complications or immediate side effects; and medical doctors are on duty should any emergencies occur.

Thankfully, nothing happened to me and could leave for home. First thing I did was to head to 7-11 convenience store to buy some Coca-Cola and isotonic drinks. The rest of the day was normal and focused on keeping myself hydrated by drinking lots of water (the Coca-Cola was for me to go with a Netflix movie at night). At 23:00 hrs, I started to feel a slight sore on my left arm where I was injected with the vaccine, accompanied with some light fatigue. So, I decided to head to bed after watching the movie. 

Today, I woke up after sleeping for 11 hours with the sore on my arm subsiding. Just like most feedback, the side effects after the first dose are mild or none at all. The real challenge would be after having the second dose where most side effects have been observed. 

For now, I shall enjoy the present moment rewarding myself with some cold Kirin beer tonight and look forward to the next dose of Moderna vaccine.
