Spotted Wood Owlet At Pasir Ris Park

The long awaited weekend has arrived after another week of work. Due to the recent heavy workload and rainy weather, I was unable to visit the usual spots I go to for hikes and photography.

Although the weather was cloudy with sunlight at some intervals, I decided to head out. In actual fact, I had craving to drink some beer in the night but thought it would be good to burn some calories first before enjoying those cold cans of Kirin sitting in the refrigerator at home on a Saturday night.

So I took a short bus ride to Pasir Ris Park which took about 20 minutes from my home. There are some star attractions of wildlife in the park such as Crested Goshawks, Oriental Pied Hornbills, Otters, Shore Pit Viper, Spotted Wood Owls, Stork-billed Kingfisher and White Bellied Sea Eagles. Although the Buffy Fish Owl has been spotted there but I have not seen it during any of my trips.

My mission yesterday was to find the Spotted Wood Owl family as I heard that there are two chicks which have fledged. I headed to the rumored location and saw the owl family. But, the owls are perched on a tall tree with thick vegetation which made photo-taking quite challenging as most angles are obstructed by branches or leaves.  I could only capture some photos of one of the two owlets which I'd like to share.

The owlet looked like it was having a nice afternoon nap when I arrived.

Having a little joy playing with leaves on the tree.

This youngling's behavior is similar to a human child who also naps, wakes up and plays some toys; which is kind of cute.

Hopefully, the owlets are able to grow up well and have a wonderful path of adulthood ahead of them.

With that, I went home fulfilled, had a refreshing shower after dinner, and ended my Saturday night watching an anime film "Belle" directed by Mamoru Hosoda with 2 cans of cold Kirin beer.

Have a wonderful weekend!
