The essence of impact is 'wabi sabi'.

In Japan, there is a concept called “wabi-sabi”(侘び寂び). This is a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The good example is “kintsugi”(金継ぎ). This is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. The idea is not to hide the bad events of the past, but to accept what is inadequate and imperfect, so that we can find something more beautiful.

In 2011, Japan experienced the Great East Japan Earthquake, and many irreplaceable lives were lost in the tsunami. However, people found hope in despair and many entrepreneurs were born to rebuild the society. Social impact investment was started to support them. Social impact investment in Japan was not born out of anger or denial of the past. Rather, it was born out of acceptance and healing of the past and the creation of new hope.

Like kintsugi(金継ぎ), social impact investment can transform a broken society into a more beautiful one.
