「しっかりしなさい。わたしだ。恐れることはない。」（マルコ６：５０）
メッセージが聞けます。
今回は、「しっかりしなさい。わたしだ。恐れることはない。」（マルコ６：５０）からのメッセージです。
これは、湖の真中で、弟子たちの舟が向かい風のために漕ぎあぐねているのをご覧になり、夜中の３時ごろ、湖の上を歩いて、彼らに近づいて行かれたイエスを幽霊だと思い、叫び声をあげた弟子たちに語られたイエスの言葉である。マルコ６：４５－５２を読んでいただきたい。マルコのメッセージは、弟子たちの心に起こった驚きを、「そして、舟に乗り込まれると、風がやんだ。彼らの心中の驚きは非常なものであった。」と表現している。キリストこそ天地を支配する神であることを体験した驚きの表現であろう。
同じ箇所を、マタイは、ペテロの体験に触れ、新たなメッセージを加えている。マタイ１４：２２－３３を読んでいただきたい。ペテロは湖の上のイエスに「主よ。もし、あなたでしたら、私に、水の上を歩いてここまで来い、とお命じになってください。」（２８節）と勇気あるお願いをしている。そして、ペテロは舟から出て、水の上を歩いてイエスのほうに行ったと書かれている。これが本当なら、ペテロは世界で初めて水の上を歩いた人間となる。ところが、風を見て、こわくなり、沈みかけ、「主よ。助けてください。」と言ってしまったようである。何を見て人生を歩むのか？一人一人考える必要がある。恐れを見て生きるのか、それとも希望を見て生きるのか、２つの道があなたの前に広がっている。同様に、イエスの伸ばした愛の手を見て、人生を歩むのか、風や波を見て生きるのか、各自決断をしていく必要がある。
人生には絶えず風や嵐が襲ってくる。それにもまして神の愛の御手が注がれていると私は信じる。そして、弟子たちのように、イエスを拝んで、「確かにあなたは神の子です。」（３３節）との信仰告白をする者でありたいと願う。
"Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." Mark 6:50
This week's message centers on Mark 6:50: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." These are the words of Jesus to his disciples who were rowing against the wind in the middle of a lake. It was about three o'clock in the morning, and they thought Jesus, walking on the lake towards them, to be a ghost. Read Mark 6:45-52, and you will see how Mark describes their astonishment. Verses 51-52: "Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were completely amazed..." It was an amazement that came from experiencing Christ as the God who rules over heaven and earth.
The Gospel of Matthew recounts the same events but tells us more about the disciple Peter. From Matthew 14:22-33, Peter says courageously, "Lord, if it’s you, tell me to come to you on the water" (verse 28). Then he steps off the boat and walks onto the surface of the water towards Jesus. If what the Bible says is true, then Peter is the world's first mortal to walk on water. But then Peter looked at the wind and, growing fearful, began to sink. "Lord, save me!" he cried out.
What do you look at as you walk this journey of life? We should each ask ourselves that. Am I looking at fear, or at hope, as I live? These two roads branch before us. And like he did with Peter, Jesus extends his loving hand to us; are we looking at Him as we live? Or at the wind and waves?
In life, there will always be wind and waves that assail us. Yet we believe that God pours out his love on us. May we, like the disciples, respond to Jesus with worship and say, "Truly you are the Son of God" (Matthew 14:33).
